Dhivael ir-Elehu t’Vrenak was a very observant person. She had been schooled her entire life to observe and to learn all she could. Her studies on Earth demanded she observe all things at all times. The strange way the steam from his beverage had moved probably would have been imperceptible to most, but she had good eyes. The Rihan wondered at the strange patterns that seemed to flow from around his drink to encompass his skull. It had happened very quickly, but she was not one to question what she could detect with any one of her senses.
It was obviously a spell of some sort, but she couldn’t be sure of what it was. However, something about it caused her to withhold questions about it. He had attempted to be discreet, and in most cases and with most people, it would have been. Dhivael was not most people. It was strange for her to not ask a question that crossed her mind, for she was very open; it was necessary for learning. Being on Earth for these past months had shown her that when someone was trying to attempt to say or do something undetected, they often responded negatively should someone notice it.
Dhivael hesitated when he told her he required touch to determine the connections between Earthlings and her race. Touching was not nearly as prominent on ch’Havran as it was in the United States, and it definitely wasn’t done so casually. However, mimicking the behavior patterns of these people would enable her to learn better, and he was offering a unique opportunity that could perhaps benefit the Rihannsu studies concerning a biological relation between the two species.
The Rihan leaned forward, offering a long fingered hand toward her future professor. His touch was light, and she felt something, some form of energy pass through and around her body. It was a fascinating sensation, and she filed away the memory for future use.
She listened to his words with great interest. They’d had several breakthroughs over the decades in the connections, but it was very difficult to trace ancestry. A great deal of tests were being prepared and placed into action. Something that had taken the earth-based witch only a short time had taken years to truly prove for her people. While her people were incredibly technologically advanced, it seemed magick did offer interesting alternatives. Dhivael would have to discuss this encounter with her superiors. It was possible that Earthlings could actually help them in their studies in more ways than as specimens of study, and a very select few people of Earth had been informed about what was happening. There was no reason why a witch couldn’t be added to that specialized group. Whether or not it would be one Gideon Whyte was another matter entirely, and the approval would still have to be given concerning telling anyone anyway.
“Are dogs not as revered as foxes? I find that surprising considering the fact that so many wish to have them as companions while foxes have their habitats destroyed. One would think they would be treated with more respect if they were viewed as a higher creature than a dog.” Personally, Dhivael didn’t find animals as interesting as fully sentient beings, and she had not discovered a way to learn the patterns of speech in their behavior, so communication with animals was beyond her skills. She felt no preference toward either one.
“Rihannsu who resemble Europeans of Earth are fewer and far between, and they are usually the offspring of a Rihan and someone from one of our sister planets which are farther from our suns. Some Rihannsu in the Northern areas of the planet resemble those Earthlings of Asian descent, and around the more tropical areas, they have similarities to the Native Americans here. Of course, with advances in travel, genetic traits have mixed. Those are simply where their appearances are most prominent in the populous. The colouring I have is the most common for my planet overall.” She felt her explanation was adequate though she didn’t doubt that he would find the idea of several inhabitable planets in one solar system interesting as his system only contained the one.
