“Professor Gideon Whyte?” Dhivael asked when the door to the office opened. Her shoulders were back and her spine was perfectly aligned. It would have either given her an air of confidence or a look of stiffness though for her, it was the only proper way to stand. Her dark eyes examined the man’s face. His features were racially ambiguous, so there was no real way for her to pin-point which ethnicities of Earth his ancestry would contain. However, his features were what she perceived as being masculine. Her gaze quickly glanced over the rest of his form, registering the way he was clothed. There would be no mistake that her gaze studious – nothing more, nothing less.
His apparel was far different from the attire educators wore on her planet, but that was understandable. It was rare that she had seen two professionals wearing the same garb on Earth while on ch’Havran, the only differences may have been the colors which announced what area or what job title they had. Individuality seemed more important to Earthlings than it was to Rihannsu. So long as her people were free to pursue their own interests, they were content.
In an effort to better assimilate, she wore a variety of clothing, but it always consisted of things that she felt would give her a more respected look. She had read essays about such fashions, and it had said her apparel was “business-casual” which seemed to be the best for her role as a student.
“I am Dhivael ir-Elehu t’Vrenak. I am a new student at Alden University, and it was brought to my attention that I will be seeing much of you beginning this autumn. My major is anthropology. I have taken it upon myself to meet each of my future professors.” The Rihan was all business unlike the other student Professor Whyte had encountered though she wouldn’t know about that.
She didn’t offer her hand. Touching was still something she had difficulties judging properly. When was it okay to touch someone on this planet when she didn’t have the emotional drive behind said touches? Besides, she didn’t understand the importance behind a handshake. All it was to her was a way to acquire unwanted germs. The people of Earth seemed less clean than those of ch’Havran.
“I thought by meeting you, I would be better prepared for the courses I will take that you will teach. What is your style of teaching? Are there any manuscripts you would recommend I read or lectures you recommend I attend that will prepare me for your teachings?”
