Britta was trying to figure out if Dhivael was joking or not. But she didn't smile or give anything away that might indicate such, so she assumed that she was being completely serious. "Yeah. Assimilation is important." She nodded. "I guess Earthings comprises everyone, not just humans? I think you're going to be doing a lot of studying. Humans are pretty complicated alone, but add all the supernatural races to that and you've probably got a hundred years or more of study in your future. Does your race live that long?"
She took another bite of green beans. "I came up here because it was closer to the beach. There's no supernatural college in Florida. There's one in Tennessee, but I wasn't about to go there. I could have gone to California, but this one is closer to my mother. She still lives in Florida."
She broke off the last of her banana and took a bite before answering the other questions. "The fall will be my second year here." She turned toward Kay and smiled. "I work as a lifeguard at the pool. Maybe I'll see you there sometime." She forked the last piece of chicken and bit into it. "What do you girls do for fun?" She wasn't even sure fun was in Dhivael's vocabulary because she seemed to take everything very seriously. Could that girl even have fun?
