Who: Myka, Helena, and the people that join them in this snowball fight! (SO, OPEN to everyone)
What: A snowball fight
When: Tuesday afternoon
Where: East green - that stretch of open land east of the castle on the castle grounds
Rating/Warnings: This is a family fun activity - keep it clean folks
Status: In Progress/OPEN
Note: Players are welcome to use the open subthreads within to start their own threads with players. Or you can start a new subthread. Just make sure to put your intentions in the subject line so we all know what's going on. (And please let us know which side your character is picking.)

With the castle covered in snow so deep you sank into it up to your thighs, Myka couldn’t pass up the opportunity this presented. Growing up in the deep winter snow of Colorado Springs, Myka had long experience with winter fun activities.

She spent all morning preparing. With a shovel she made two crude embankments within throwing distance of each other and high enough to duck behind and without roofs (she didn’t want to make anything dangerous). Then, because she was all about fairness, she piled snow ball up on each side. Each side started on the same level.

Now, to gather forces.

She took out her phone and first sent a text to Helena, imploring her to come meet her out on the east green.

After she got a response from Helena, Myka next sent out a general message on the network – Snowball fight, two sides: Myka vs. Helena. Come choose a side, east green. Forts provided.

Myka | Helena

Myka waited for Helena to come into view, snowball in her be-gloved hand, her head barely peeking out over the top of her snow fort. When Helena got close enough, Myka rose up and chucked the ball at Helena’s middle. She was laughing before the ball connected with Helena’s thigh.

She then pointed across to the other snow fort, with raised eyebrows challenging her girlfriend.

Helena had been doing a bit of writing when she'd gotten Myka's text. Of course, she dropped what she was doing, pulled on her coat, scarf, gloves and winter boots and went out to the appointed meeting spot. She was rather curious as to what Myka wanted. As she made her way to the east green, which should really be called the east white currently, she was running possible scenarios through her mind. Perhaps a walk through the snow?

...or she could be hit by a snowball.

It took a moment for her brain to register what had hit her, but the white mark on her pants clearly gave it away. She then looked up at Myka, then followed where she pointed. When her gaze turned back to her girlfriend, Helena's eyes narrowed slightly in determination, a gleam passing through them. A smirk was her response.

Helena moved over to the other fort, ducking behind it and she began making snowballs. She liked having an arsenal ready. Having grown up with two brothers, one of whom Helena regularly put the proverbial snowball smackdown upon, Helena was more than versed in the ways of snowball fights. Once she had several snowballs made and carefully lined up beside her, she peaked over the snow fort to gauge the distance and what Myka was doing.

"I do hope you are ready for a war, love," Helena called, amusement and determination evident in her tone.

Myka undauntedly stared her girlfriend down.

“I’ll be nice and let you get those balls made,” Myka called out. Of course, Myka wasn’t being completely altruistic, she may have had a stack of balls already made, but she could always use more.

“But I know exactly what I am doing.” And she knew when this was over she and Helena were going to warm up by the fire, possibly a steaming bath. And that was the win she had in mind for the end of this.

To be cheeky, she peaked back over the wall of her fort and aimed a snow ball to hit just at the top of Helena’s wall, splattering the space beyond with snow as her ball broke up

Helena was decidedly not the type to back down from a challenge, she was rather competitive when it came down to it. And she knew that Myka knew that. This was going to certainly be a war.

And after the war came the spoils when they would both warm up together. If Helena had her way, it would be both a steaming bath and then sitting by the fire.

She ducked behind the wall as Myka launched another snowball. When she heard the thump of it hitting the wall and spraying snow over the top of the wall, Helena grabbed two snowballs, sat up and launched both in rapid succession back at Myka. She then ducked back down long enough to grab a third snowball. This one she lobbed up into the air, intending for it to land, hopefully on Myka, on the other side of her snow fort.

Helena remained peaking over her own wall to see if her lob was successful or not.

Helena got her wish. Myka was able to duck the first two, thanks to her fort design. But the third ball hit her. At the last second, its movement caught her attention and she had time to squeal and cover her head with her arms. And even that didn’t protect her from the snow that fell down the collar of her coat.

“Oh!” Myka called out and grabbed one of her snow balls. She rose up on her knees so she could get a good aim. It did leave her exposed, but she’d have a better chance of hitting Helena, too.

“Why don’t you come out so I can see you, Helena?” Myka called out in a taunting way.

Hearing Myka's squeal, Helena couldn't help but to laugh. It wasn't just a run-of-the-mill amused-type of laughs, it was more of a belly laugh. She'd certainly needed to land a good strike after the first one Myka had landed on her, and she'd gotten it. Now that they'd both landed initial hits, it was an all-out war for the rest of the duration they could endure outdoors.

"What, so I can be a free target for you to hit? I think not, you already had your free shot!" Helena taunted back, a wide smile on her face, though Myka wouldn't be able to see that as she was still peeking over the wall of her snow fort. But as she'd been watching and exchanging taunts, her hands had been busy making a couple new snowballs to replace a coupe of the ones she'd just lost.

Once they were ready, she then sat up on her knees and launched another snowball at Myka. She, too, was exposed, but sacrifices needed to be made when launching a frontal attack.

Myka was ready this time. The moment Helena popped up over the wall, Myka threw the ball in her right hand. And then she took the reserve she had in her left hand and threw that too.

And then she was ducking back behind her wall.

“But this is so much more fun when I hit you, rather than when you hit me.”

The first snowball hit her in the shoulder, but she'd managed to duck the second one. She was grinning, and after Myka ducked behind her wall, Helena remained on her knees, coming up with a strategy. Using the success she had with her earlier lob, she wondered if she could get Myka to move around behind her wall and attempt to get her into a more prone position where she could land a direct hit on her.

Smirking, Helena grabbed a couple snowballs and lobbed one into the air. She intended it to land close enough to Myka to get her to move, not to actually hit her. Though Helena wouldn't precisely complain if it did hit Myka.

"From your perspective. From mine, it's far more enjoyable when I hit you." She chuckled. "Have I mentioned recently that you have a beautiful mind?" So okay she decided to slip in the hitting on Myka aspect there. But Helena was actually taking that train of thought somewhere.

Ukitake + ?
[info]stormblades

Really, Ukitake wasn't one to be found in the midst of a snowball fight. That was what his subordinates would say. He was far too proper, his health far too precarious.

His subordinates had never seen him at the academy when he was young and Kyouraku talked him into trouble.

It helped, when one launched a sneak attack, to look as innocent and fragile as possible. It also helped, when launching a sneak attack with snow, to have white hair and to be wearing a white haori over a subdued blue kimono and hakama.

The Soul Reaper didn't so much pick a side as he picked the most convenient target and then appear as though he'd never stopped to roll and throw a snowball in the first place.

Ukitake + Mara!

The Jedi couldn't pass up the invitation to a snowball fight. While she was largely over the emotions being turned into her younger self again, she certainly needed the pick me up the snowball fight offered. It was quite the sight to see the forts had been made and clear battle lines had been drawn. After taking stock of who was on what side, Mara ended up choosing Myka's side, even though she hadn't met the woman before, she just felt it was a good side to be on.

Mara had gotten into the fight, using tactics to land hits on the opposing team. She wasn't using any of her Force abilities because, well, that would be cheating. She was tempted to use them at times, but she restrained herself from that.

She was intent on what she was doing that she'd completely missed the white-haired man throwing a snowball at her. Taking the hit, Mara quickly turned in the direction it came from. Her red hair made her quite the standout target when she wasn't behind the wall of the snow fort. And considering the man was the only one in the direction the snowball had come from, Mara ascertained that he was the one who had thrown the snowball even though he looked innocent. Arching an eyebrow she smirked a bit and broke off from the team, gathering snow and making a snowball.

"Sneak attack? How cunning of you," she spoke to him, obviously ready to return the favor, the smirk still on her lips.

Ukitake + Mara!

Now would have been a convenient time to have a snow or ice type zanpaktou, but Ukitake’s sword had manifested with quite a different set of abilities. He felt a brief pang of longing as he thought of dragging Toshiro-kun into using his own zanpaktou to aid in the fight. The young captain would have argued all the way there, but he would have given in and might even have had some fun. Then again, using Soul Reaper abilities would technically have been unfair, especially when most of the living couldn’t see them.

“I’ve no idea what you’re talking about,” he claimed upon being accused, but his small, amused smile gave him away. He didn’t bother to hide it. A little provocation made a snowball fight all the more fun. “You wouldn’t target a harmless old man like me, would you?” He beamed, making it clear he had just dared her to take her best shot.

Oh Mara could see that he was responsible. She knew that amused smile anywhere. The provocation only made her smirk widen. She did certainly love that kind of dare. It brought out her competitive side. And Mara certainly was a competitor. She liked challenges and the like.

"I'm sure you don't, much like I'm sure you won't mind if I do target a harmless old man like you," she responded, a gleam passing through her emerald eyes. Once her snowball was ready, she quickly aimed and threw it at him. Lucky for him, she wasn't using any of her Force abilities. If she was using them, she'd have won the snowball fight by now.

Ukitake + Mara!

Gigai weren’t designed to perform flash step, so Ukitake was left to deal with the assault like any average person. He ducked, and in the process scooped up another handful of snow and packed it down. By the time he stood, the snowball was ready, and he launched it at Mara, a delaying tactic to keep her busy while he dove for cover. His white hair and haori made him difficult to see once he’d found shelter behind a snowdrift. Ukitake poked his head out, smiling.

“Young people these days. What is the world coming to?”
