Who: Olive and Tifa
What: Random run in
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: Bean There Done That coffee shop
Rating/Warnings: Probably low
Status: In progress/Closed

The coffee shop was a little crowded, but mostly people were ordering drinks to go. Olive spied a small table off to the right when she walked in, just recently vacated. She claimed it by putting her jacket on the back of the chair and then stepping into the queue for ordering. She was looking up at the chalk-written menu trying to decide if it was still early enough for something caffeinated or if she really just wanted some hot chocolate, given how cold it was.

And in the course of waiting the next person to come into the shop caught Olive’s eye. And then she looked again, because she was sure she recognized the woman.

Yes, on closer inspection, this was someone from the castle.

Olive offered her a warm smile and a small wave.

Tifa was slowly getting used to how everything worked, luckily her background allowed her to adapt easily and, of course, having Cloud around helped a lot. Now that she had settled in a little Tifa's mind was turning to re-opening the bar, everything seemed to be in working order so she needed to find out what she needed to do.

But right now she wanted to get a coffee. She'd found it to be a wonderful drink and quite enjoyed the atmosphere in the shop that she went to as well.

Entering she noticed a girl wave and smile and realized she vaguely recognized her. Waving back Tifa stepped forward with her own smile.

“You’re from the castle,” Olive gestured towards Tifa.

The line moved ahead of her and Olive glanced forward to keep her place. But then she turned back around to address Tifa.

“You’re name is Tifa, right?”

Olive hadn’t been at the castle the time, but she did remember talking to the woman over the network.

"Oh yes, that's me" Tifa nodded, scouring her memory for this woman. "Oh, are you Olive?" she asked, remembering the conversation on the network, "It's nice to see you properly"

"Yup!" Olive laughed. "Network meeting and In Person meeting. You'll get used to it the longer you're here. It's nice to meet you."

The person at the counter was taking their sweet time, or they had a lot of drinks to order. Either way, the line was stuck for the moment.

"So what brings you out this..." Olive struggled to find a complimentary word for the winter weather. She never tried to hide the fact she hated cold weather. She currently still had her hat, scarf, and gloves on, even though they were in a fairly warm coffee shop. "This typical winter day?"

"You're the first one I've properly met who I've spoken to on there" Tifa admitted, except Cloud of course who didn't count since he knew her before anyway.

"The call of coffee" she smiled, she didn't mind the cold too much not to the extent this woman obviously did but it certainly was chillier than she would like, "And then I need to find someone who can help me see what I need to do to re-open the bar"

"Ah, coffee." Olive nodded with understanding fondness. She'd been raised on this practically. "The siren call we all obey."

Finally, the line started forward again.

"The bar?" Olive asked, mildly interested, if only because this was a fact about the person she just met, and it was on Tifa's mind. Olive wasn't all that interested in going to bars. She was only nineteen, and here she wasn't allowed to into establishments that primarily served alcohol given the drinking age was twenty-one. A club, sure, but one could do other things in a club besides drink. A bar, however, was different all together. And, she hadn't been around the first time this bar was open, she had no frame of reference.

"You're moving quick if you already have a project in mind."

"It's become quite addictive" Tifa admitted with a smile.

"Oh yes" Tifa stepped forward too with the others in line, "Well Cloud said the last time I was here, which I don't remember, I started a bar. Seventh Heaven - just like back home. He runs his delivery service from the back room so I'm hoping it won't be too difficult to re-opne it. If I can work out who I need to speak to" she explained.

“Oh! Hey,” Olive said, her interest perking up. “Another returned from their home after being here. I was here for a year and some months and then I went to bed one night and when I woke up, four months had been skipped. Everyone thought I’d gone home. Weird. It felt like just an average night’s sleep to me.” She shook her head at the strange things this place did to them.

“But I remember my first time here. That must be weird to have all these people telling you you were here before but you don’t remember it.”

"It really is" Tifa nodded, "I find it frustrating that I can't remember what I did or who I met. Cloud doesn't really say much. I guess it must have been hard on him" She knew she wouldn't have liked it had it been her and she was glad he was helping her. Not that he ever wouldn't though. They were best friends and had been through so much together.

Olive hadn't actually met or spoken to Cloud. He'd must have been a new arrival either during the four months she'd been gone, or just before that. And she hadn't spoken to anyone named Cloud since she'd, well, for lack of a better way to explain it, started existing again in the Land of Make Believe.

"Who's Cloud?" Olive asked, hoping guessing this was a person was right, and not Tifa referencing something like a mystical energy speaking to her. That would be embarrassing.

"Oh sorry" Tifa said with a rueful smile, "Cloud is...my best friend. We've known each other since we were kids and he's been here a lot longer than I have. He remembers when I was here the first time" she explained. It really shouldn't be a surprise that Cloud wasn't known to everybody, he wasn't exactly the social sort.

Olive was, she could admit it, a little jealous. She hadn't seen her family and friends in a year and a half now. Well, she'd used her Christmas gift to see her mother, but she couldn't help but feel that that wasn't the same as being home. Not permanently.

"That's nice that you have someone from home here. Well," she caught herself. "Maybe. I don't know, maybe home for you is really nice and you both want to get back there. In that case, no, it's not nice that you're both stuck here. But, what I mean is, this place is strange and lonely sometimes, it's good to have a familiar face around to offset that."

Olive was now the next person in line for the counter.

"So you two are going to open a bar, huh?"

"I know what you mean and it is much easier to have Cloud here" Tifa nodded, "We both want to get home to the kids but it's reassuring to know they won't realise we've gone" That had been one of the main concerns she'd had when she had arrived here, Cloud had thankfully put her mind to rest on that.

Tifa nodded, "I run a bar back home and Cloud runs his delivery business from it so we figured may as well give it a go here too. It works well for us there"

“Oh?” Olive’s eyebrows shot up. “You two have kids?” Olive assumed Tifa meant they were her own kids – biological or adopted. And by kids, she jumped to small rugrats to young adolescences.

“I’m sorry you’re here away from them and they’re back home.”

"Denzel and Marlene" Tifa smiled, "Marlene is the daughter of a friend of ours and Cloud found Denzel when he was ill and he's been part of our family ever since" she explained.

"It's hard not being with them, I'm so used to them running around the place. Getting underfoot"

“Oh,” Olive said. She’d assumed when Tifa said ‘the kids’ that she’d meant they were hers, biologically or adopted. It sounded like an adoption on the part of Denzel, and more of a ‘looking after’ for Marlene. Olive decided it was best to not ask for clarification, and just accepted the description as is. If Tifa called them ‘her kids’ then Olive would respect that.

At that moment Olive’s turn came to the counter, and she held an apologetic hand up for Tifa, then turned to place her order.

When she was finished, she said to Tifa, “I have a table over there if you want to continue talking. If not, whatevs, you know.”

It hadn't occurred to Tifa to call them anything else, to her they felt like her kids and she knew they loved her and Cloud as much as a mother and father. She didn't consider how strange it might sound to others.

"That would be lovely, thank you. It's nice to talk to someone" Tifa nodded, letting Olive move to the table while she placed her own order.
