What: Long overdue girls night
When: (backdated) Friday evening
Where: Their rooms
Rating/Warnings: Should be low
Status: Closed / Complete

Gwen was still getting over the shock of discovering the Spider-man comic books. Finding out that not only did she and Peter stay together and were almost engaged, but that she was going to die was more than Gwen expected. She was suddenly not upset anymore about being taken to the Land of Make Believe. She began to consider maybe whoever took her did her a favor. While there was the possibility that none of the books or films aren't going to happen in Gwen's future, she didn't want to take that risk. While at the store she purchased a copy of the film and a copy of The Death of Gwen Stacy comic. She planned on watching the film later to see just how similar it was to her life before the Land of Make Believe.

Gwen did return to work the next day and forced herself to return to her routine. She went to work and ate lunch in the breakroom rather than the city. After work she stopped at the store to pick up a few half pints of Ben & Jerry's. She bought banana split for herself, AmeriCone Dream for Darcy and a brownie batter to split if they want more. She stopped at the movie rental to pick up a few swashbuckler films before heading back to the castle.

When she returned to the castle she smiled and said, "hey," to Darcy. Gwen went to set her purse and trench in her room.

"They had your AmeriCone Dream," she said when she returned to the sitting area. She held up the plastic bag with ice cream. "And I grabbed some swashbuckler adventure films. Princess Bride,
Stardust, The Mask of Zorro, and The Three Musketeers. Don't worry, no Pirates of the Caribbean." She set the movies down on the sofa before setting the ice cream on the table, ready to be eaten. Gwen offered the best smile she could to Darcy, trying to push all of the emotions away from her mind.

"Awesome. I got a - couple of packs of fruity flavored wine coolers of various flavors. And some ice and a cheapo Styrofoam cooler. If you go on the network complaining of a hangover tomorrow morning, though, I'll claim not to know you and see about swapping roomies." Darcy warned with a smile. She had gotten them because, in the grand scheme of things, it was mild and had enough kick without risking pain like Vodka or Tequila. There was a way to drink, even get drunk if they wanted, without it being very bad.

"That sounds awesome. Especially the no Pirates. Jack is - ugh, so very pretty but I don't even know with him right now. I feel like a drinking buddy or something. But he's so very pretty." Darcy moved to get the container of ice cream out of the plastic bag. "But let's dish on what's bugging you. Let's find a swashbuckler and you can go into it?"

Gwen laughed a little at that. "I promise I won't," she said. Gwen reached into the cooler to pull out one of the peach flavored drinks. She took off the cap and took a swig. "This is good. Thank you."

"That he is," Gwen agreed when Darcy mentioned Jack. "How was drinks with him? Is it more obvious now he's hitting on you? Or do you think that's just him. From what I saw in the films back in New York it's hard to tell if he's just friends or more."

Gwen drank more before answering Darcy. She had read the books she could before the shop owner yelled to her about the place not being a library and she bought the book and film. Yet it still felt like a mess. Gwen began to wonder if she made the right decision in telling Peter.

"Er...well..." Gwen started when she couldn't use drinking as an excuse anymore, "I found The Amazing Spider-man comics and film. I didn't go looking for them or anything. But, I just. I couldn't help reading them when I finally saw them."

She leaned back in the chair and shook her head, "Darcy, I die. Peter and I make up and are together, almost engaged in fact. But, the Green Goblin - who is apparently my boss at Oscorp, go figure - uses me to lure Peter out as Spider-man. Green Goblin throws me over the bridge, Peter apparently forgets about the law of physics for a moment and shoots out one web to get my ankle. But the sudden stop snaps my neck and I die." Gwen felt like she wanted to cry again but forced the pain back and instead drank a little more. She was already halfway done with the first drink, suddenly happy she chose to stay home to do this.

"It's not Peter's fault, I hope I'm not coming off like that. I knew it was always a risk back when we were together. I just didn't realize that it would actually happen," Gwen said. "Man, Darcy, I haven't even told you about my clones. It's such a mess that I didn't think I actually would be thankful that this place snatched me up when it did."

"Glad to, so long as there's no arrested part involved." Darcy joked with a grin, settling into her seat with the container of Ben & Jerry's and opening it. She didn't eat that first bite, though, distracted by the topics.

"It was - I don't know. He's kind of... 'whatever you want' a lot? I don't know if that's his attempt to woo a woman, but it comes off somewhere between sweet and bland. He's out of his normal setting. He talks about the sea and there's a mental spark and I can tell he misses it. I think just friends, but it's hard to tell with him kind of - off his pirate game?" Darcy admitted, then froze when Gwen broke out the big news.

"So - you have a movie you're in too?" Darcy cringed, looking over at her. The dark haired girl went pale at the idea of her roommate dying, her eyes watering and Darcy not bothering to hide or push it back. The ice cream, alcohol, and movies were forgotten. The idea of calling up for popcorn was completely forgotten too.

"And you die? Okay, that sucks without even getting into - clones? I'm - really glad you're not dead and are here." There weren't enough wine coolers in the land to deal with this. "There's no chance that any of it is wrong somehow?"

Gwen nodded, "I am. I maybe bought a copy to see later. You know, to compare lives and such. Are you from a movie? I'm sorry I don't mean to pry."

She finished her drink and set the empty bottle aside. At this point, Gwen didn't care. She didn't work the next day and if she honestly got drunk off coolers than it wouldn't matter.

"For some things I agree and for others I don't," Gwen said considering her stay. "While we were in the comic shop I sort of...told Peter I still have feelings for him. I don't want him to break things off with Kitty and come to me anytime soon, don't get me wrong. It's just harder to pretend knowing these things now. I know if I return I would do it all, even the death, if it meant I was could still have that life with him. But, here I'm friends with you. I work with dragons for christ-sake. And I'm not dead. Which, is always a plus."

Gwen reached forward for her ice cream, took off the top, and stuck one of the plastic spoons she got at the store into it. "The clones are just creepy. Apparently one of my professors is obsessed with me and got hold of my DNA. He made three clones. One that just sort of caused problems and conflict for Peter. One my prof was married to. And one that apparently thinks she's really me but ends up dying later anyway. I don't know, that's sort of where I stopped reading about me."

While Gwen had become more negative than she usually was after this ordeal, she had promised Darcy a movie night for so long. She shook her head, and reached for another drink. Taking the drink and ice cream back to the sofa she said, "I don't want to be such a downer, Darcy. Tell me more about what you feel and what you want from Jack; and let's start watching some movies. I don't want to ruin our fun tonight, and honestly I could really use the distraction from all things Spider-man right now."

"I'm from a movie, but I'm not in the comics. And there's like - differences." Darcy shrugged, pointing toward her bedroom with her plastic spoon. She, of course, turned it to a slight joke with a good dose of joking, "I can grab if you want? It's not prying. I didn't figure to pop out with it, though now I can get the cardboard cutout of me since you know. I keep thinking I should tell Jane though."

"You're not old enough to buy alcohol legally. People date. People get sent back. You and Peter might still end up together here, you might meet a guy who is also awesome. It sucks to feel alone instead of knowing you have the right - guy who loves you, who is super sexy and smart and... right. But you have time. I mean, you are not an old maid." Darcy brought her spoon back to finally take a bite of her ice cream. She'd go grab the Thor DVD if Gwen wanted to see it, even just to see the DVD cover and summary, but she was determined to get even a few bites of her ice cream.

"Just know you can chat at me whenever, okay? And... I don't know. I wish there were something to tell you about Jack? I don't know. I don't think I want much of anything right now. I figured a - flirtmance or even a bit more might be nice, nothing serious, but I don't think it's there. He's told me I'm beautiful, once, and after that it sizzled out. I want to feel something, but he just says 'whatever you want' a lot and I feel like I barely know him past 'he's hot' and 'he likes the sea.'" Darcy admitted with a mildly dramatic sigh, moving on in an attempt to provide a distraction as Gwen had requested. It was the truth, too. Jack was nice, but Darcy wasn't sure if that was enough. "So I think he and I are drinking buddy friends. It's good to have someone to go get drinks with in the legal sense. And have I mentioned lately that he's super pretty to look at?"

"What movie do you want to start with?"

Gwen tilted her head at Darcy, confused, " don't understand. How can you be in the movie but not in the comics? Did they add you in?" She shook her head at Darcy. She wouldn't force someone to watch their portrayal. It felt wrong and mean of Gwen to even consider it. "No, no I won't make you do that. It's fine. But, Jane doesn't know? Does she at least know something exists? You might need to be the one to tell her."

She nodded at Darcy and was feeling a little better with every moment. Gwen would be eternally grateful to have Darcy as her roommate. The girl had perspective and it definitely made things easier. "Yes. I'm on eighteen. My birthday isn't for another three months even. So much can change between now and when I'm supposedly gonna die." At the mention of her and Peter, Gwen immediately got nervous, "No, please don't think that right now. I want it to be clear to everything in existence that I don't want him to break up with Kitty. I'm not even saying that to be nice. I don't want things to change, I just want to at some point get to where I can just calmly live from day to day here with friends and work, and have that be it. And who knows. I could get sent back tomorrow, or next week my own version of a Pop-tart loving alien thingy from another universe will show up and change my desire for routine and normalcy. Or some random pirate will show up. I don't know. I don't want to be that ex. I just told the truth and now with that finally out there I'm hoping we can find a way to move on. Him and Kitty go one way, and me and my life go the other. Done."

Gwen leaned back in the sofa, hoping Darcy didn't judge her or think that she was that ex. Gwen would have felt worse if she had kept everything a secret from Peter. Not to mention have to keep avoiding him the way she was. She knew it'd eventually blow up on her. By having everything out there, Gwen hoped maybe they could start over. Maybe not as friends like Peter had hoped, but instead just people who could coexist in one place.

"Thanks for being there Darcy. And obviously same for you if you ever need anything, I'm here." Gwen returned to her ice cream as she listened to Darcy explain Jack. She made a face at the thought of Jack, "Sounds like he can't even decide what he wants. Maybe just don't force anything, like you're doing, and see what happens?"

Gwen looked over at the movie pile and shrugged, "I don't know." Gwen liked them all and couldn't decide which to start with. So she closed her eyes and put her hand on a random movie. She opened them and held it up, "I guess, how about Stardust? Have you seen it?"

"I don't know. I guess? I'm not in any of the comics. It's all about Thor and Jane and stuff. Thor is completely different in the comics, too. He's two people in the comics and changes between forms. He was one guy, and one guy only, when I met him. The way he arrived on earth is completely different too." Darcy admitted with a shrug, pausing to take another bite of ice cream before admitting. "I don't really care. It's not so much snooping on me as it is Jane, since she and Thor are kind of - a thing? But I'm good not watching it too."

"It sounds like you're getting things together and - straightened out so you can have an awesome life here." She held up the ice cream carton, like she was doing a toast. "And may you be stuck with the best roommate ever for a long time to come."

"No forcing seems best. Even if it's at the Roadhouse with free drinks, I don't tend to go for - wasted, so it's not like I'll wake up after doing something I regret later. Things can go however they go." Darcy paused at the mention of the movie and shrugged. "Nope! Sounds good and random. Pop it in? I - oh! I should call down for popcorn. I forgot."

"That's strange," Gwen was still confused on how Darcy could exist in one version but not in the other. "Sounds like there are a lot of differences. I haven't seen the film yet, but so far besides age and the fact that I learn Peter and Spider-man are one in the same before my father's death, I haven't found anything really out there."

Gwen smiled when Darcy showed that she didn't think Gwen was crazy. Darcy seemed to understand what Gwen was saying and she was relieved. Maybe Gwen had a chance to straighten everything out and just enjoy the new time she had before she was forced to go back to New York and to her death. Gwen laughed a little as she held up her ice cream carton as well. "I'll eat to that," she said as she pretended to 'clinlk' her carton against Darcy's. She even took a spoonful of ice cream to complete the toast.

"Well, I hope it all works out to your favor," Gwen said as she opened the DVD case to get the movie out. "Yes, popcorn! Something salty would go perfectly with this sweet ice cream."

"I figure if people can show up from different dimensions, maybe it's - Thor and Jane in another me-lacking dimension. Sad for them, really." Darcy admitted with a shrug, laughing a little as Gwen went along with her idea of toasting with ice cream. The fact that they had wine coolers they could've toasted with just as easily didn't matter. It was about the fun of it in the moment.

"I'm going to be lazy and change into my PJs. I'm not going anywhere, so pajama pants ahoy. I'll call while I'm in my room." It would only take her a moment. "That can give the movie time to start up, run ads, bore you to death with ads. Is there anything else I should ask for?"

"Yes," Gwen agreed. "Their loss."

Gwen smiled nodded at Darcy when she declared changing into her PJs. "That's actually not a bad idea," she agreed, thinking of doing the same.

But first Gwen took the DVD out, started the TV and player and poped the DVD in. She waited until it had a chance to load and pressed play on the remote to confirm that yes she did want the DVD to play. As she saw the warning labels for piracy start up she went to her own room to change out of her work clothes, which were incidentally her everyday clothes as well, and into a T-shirt and pajama pants. She was pulling on a sweater over the T-shirt as she returned to the sitting area, an ad on the TV well underway.

"So, how do you like your job at the Damage Den?" Gwen asked when Darcy had returned. "Do you get a lot of strange and weird customers come in to break things? I feel like you'd see a lot of characters there." Gwen settled back on the couch, wine cooler in hand.

Darcy came out in a matching pajama top and bottom, a light blue base with silver and gold. There was a Jackson Pollock style randomness to the pattern. There wasn't any method to Darcy's madness in picking the particular set, all the same, aside from the fact it looked cool. She could be rather fashionable when she wanted.

"I actually see a lot of lawyers." Darcy admitted with a laugh. "And other suits-and-ties sorts of people. It really is fun though. Part of me thinks 'oh, I should get a better paying job' but then... hey, do I really want to go back to school? And room and utilities are kind of paid for, on the plus." She gestured around them in general, falling down into her chair in a dramatic motion before grabbing a strawberry daiquiri wine cooler and twisting it open. "What about you? Having fun with - whatever science-like thing you do with dragons?"

"Really?" Gwen supposed she shouldn't have been surprised that so many lawyers would go to the Damage Den. Their jobs were stressful enough as it was. But she had to agree with Darcy on the school front. It was in fact what Darcy had said upon her arrival about school that convinced Gwen to not enroll.

"I hear you there," Gwen said. "Like you said once, it's not as if the credits transfer over if we return. We'd have to start all over again. May as well take this as a sort of vacation."

She sat down again on the sofa next to Darcy, and picked up the remote. "It's pretty nice actually. I don't know when I'd get to work with actual dragons back home. There is a lot I don't know, granted. But, I'm getting there." Gwen pressed enter on the remote to confirm that yes, they did want the movie to play. She set the remote aside as the menu went away on the TV and the movie began to play.
