Helena Wells-Quinzel is H.G. Wells ([info]indelibleink) wrote in [info]makebelievelog,
At Anakin's joke, Helena smirked a bit. "Oh, thank you for noticing. I thought I'd try something new." She chuckled a bit and followed along. Despite the fact she was practically salivating at being in a place of learning like this, Helena was trying to blend in and act like she wasn't a child about to be given free reign in a forbidden candy store. She did glance at the student labs as she passed them. Even though they were for those who had no true interest in the subject, they still tantalized her pallet.

Helena was a woman who had interests in many areas. Writing, biology, chemistry, mechanics, electronics (very primitive electronics, but it wasn't all that difficult for her to follow modern electronics), various types of arithmetic. There were some other areas that had her interest, but those were her main ones. Unlike most people, Helena had never been tutored in the subjects, most of what she knew was self-taught, or she learned from her lovers. Attending a school such as this in her day was completely unheard of for a woman, especially as she would have pursued education within the sciences. While her father would no doubt have funded such a pursuit for her (she had been his favorite child, though he'd never said as much but the way he treated her spoke volumes to that), her mother had staunchly been against such things. Her mother had not appreciated the fact that she had a genius for a daughter. So in a way, Helena envied the women of this day and age that could freely pursue education in whatever subjects they wished.

Brushing a hand through her hair, she tried to put some order to it. It was damp, and she all ready knew a hot shower or even a bath was in order when she returned to the castle. But first she had a task to perform here, and it was for a good cause. Helena came to a stop and eyed Anakin as he mentioned about needing a certain type of key to gain access to what lay on the other side of the door. She arched an eyebrow, noticing that he did not, in fact, possess one of these keys, yet he still made the door open. She stepped through the open door and waited for Anakin before continuing on.

"They always keep the best things behind locked doors. That and volatile elements and instruments that those who are not serious about science should ever be around." A slight smirk curved her lips at the thought. She remembered her first experience in a laboratory. It could have gone far worse than it had. And really, science was a constant process of trial and error, was it not? There was not a scientist in the world who could claim they never made a faux pas in the laboratory at some point. And if they did, they were lying.
