Anakin was still getting used to this new place. He had a considerable great deal more freedom than he’d been allowed at the Temple. And most people, like the staff, hadn’t a clue who he was, which meant when they were around him they didn’t exude nervousness or annoyance. That was a pleasant change. But all the same he was still very unsure of himself.
He didn’t mean to startle the young woman sitting on the ground. He just wanted to know what she was drawing. The angle of the pad before her showed the subject of her art clearly enough, though from his position, looking down from the top of the pad, made it difficult to right in his mind with just one gland. He lingered too long and it caught her attention. He froze instead of moving along like he should have, instead of bothering her more.
“I’m sorry,” he said automatically after she spoke. His eyes were wide from having been caught. “You’re not. I just wanted to see what you were drawing.” He did still want to know what she was working on, though, and glanced back down to try to get one more look before he would be shooed away.
