What: Anakin attempts to impress Padmé

Where: Roof
Rating/Warnings: Low; will change if necessary
Status: Incomplete/Closed

Padmé didn't know what was going to happen as far as her memories when she returned to the palace on Naboo, but she still had been using her time in the Land of Make Believe for the purpose of benefiting her mental and physical state in case something did return back with her. A mental break, relaxing (the best she could - it still disturbed her to think of her people at home and not be able to do anything in the present), was pleasant. The physical was a matter of keeping herself physically fit and engaged.

She had been working on the latter when she ventured out of her rooms and about the castle grounds. Running, jogging, dodging. Finally, she had taken her grappling hook gun out and shot it up to the castle roof. Taking care that she wouldn't be in the line of walking up along anyone's windows, of course. She knew she could go inside and take the stairs, but what was the fun in that? A climb had direct relevance to her plan, so up she went.

Anakin was bored. This malady had set in about the evening of the first day he was in the Land of Make Believe. There had been the confusion of walking up in this place, Obi-Wan was the same age as he was, Padmé was from right when he met her over six years before (and shared rooms with him), and he had a son despite also being a Jedi! Not to mention all the other information he’d learned about the future, like his death at the hands of the Sith Lord, Darth Vader. But the shock and awe of learning all that information sunk in fast and he was left anxious, directionless and with nothing to do.

And Anakin left on his own was susceptible to whatever fanciful idea that popped into his head.

He was on top of one of the towers, because he could get there. Jumping to a solid foot hold and then climbing the rest of the way to the peak had been easy. Athletics and acrobatics were never an area of study Anakin ignored, anything that let him be constantly moving was fine by him. It was fun up on the point like that for about as long as it took to take in a 360 degree view. When he peered back down he felt the most efficient way would be to simply leap the whole way down, instead of climbing.

Gauging his footing and opening himself to the Force he sprang away from the tower peak and fell gracefully to the lower roof just as another body popped up over the roof-edge wall. It seemed in his leaping without really looking he’d missed the grappling hook embedded in the stone, or the fact someone was in fact climbing to the very spot he’d chosen to jump. He did that often and it annoyed Master Obi-Wan to no end.

“Oh sorr-” he started to say, more out of habit then actually feeling sorry. They could have chosen a different spot to climb. But then he saw who it was and his whole demeanor changed. A grin spread for a moment, then he realized he’d just probably startled Padmé so he took some hasty steps forward to help her. “Sorry, Padm- Your High- Padmé. I didn’t see you.”

Padmé had been in a high alert state to start, even if she was only known as a handmaiden in this new place. At the sudden new presence jumping into the spot where she had been climbing, she was (of course) surprised. Padmé's goal was to get two feet onto solid ground in as dignified a manner as possible after, of course.

"I - was keeping in practice, in shape." Padmé paused, looking at Anakin. "And where did you come from?"

She didn’t sound angry. That was the first thing Anakin noticed. This was a response so much the opposite from what he expected. How many times had he seen the frustration tug at the corners of Master Obi-Wan’s eyes, or hear Master Yoda’s exasperated sigh, or cringe at Master Windu’s clenched jaw – he was certain the man wore his molars flat from all that strident tension. His Masters’ disapproval was a daily occurrence. To have someone now brush off his antics without so much a glare threw him off balance, so to speak.

“Oh, uh,” he found himself wishing for a better explanation, one that wouldn’t ruin the odd peace of this place he’d stumbled into, where people didn’t correct his every move. But he wasn’t a liar. “From up above.” He turned and pointed back up to the tower peak.

“I didn’t startle- upset you did I?”

Padmé looked upward toward the tower peak when he explained and indicated, assessing the spot and idly wondering about climbing up there herself. Rather, she kept her mind on the moment and turned her attention toward Anakin.

"You startled me, A - Padawan Skywalker," It was harder to remember to call him by a formal title, now that he was younger, but Padmé caught herself in time. "But you didn't upset me." Padmé responded calmly, keeping her demeanor calm and open. She knew better than to play with her sleeve or do any other form of nervous fidgeting. Rather, she calmly put the grappling hook back onto her belt. "Were you trying to keep in shape as well? I don't wish to interrupt training, if that was your intent."
