Hey, roomie. I'm at the station tonight, but I just wanted to check in, make sure everything's okay.

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving back home?

Thank you, everything is all right.

And, no, we don't have anything called Thanksgiving, though everyone here seems to be getting ready for it. What is it exactly?

I suppose the simplest description would be to say that it's a kind of harvest feast, in my country.

That sounds nice! Does everyone celebrate together?

Extended families do, and sometimes groups of friends, or even whole communities.

I'm not sure. Not all of us are from the same country, so we might not all have the same traditions. But if you'd like to invite anyone over for dinner, I'd be happy to host.

Really? Well, that sounds wonderful! What if we both invited a few friends over, and I cooked?

We could always try cooking together.

I would love that. I didn't know that you enjoyed cooking.

I do. I'm not as good at it as my mother, but I enjoy it.

Neither am I. I think I could practice for the rest of my life, and I still wouldn't be. But it's something I love to do.
