Pansy had become a rather pathetic creature. She had become so pathetic that she even had to admit it. Her mates had all gone and married and here she was a bitter young woman on the verge of alcoholism. No wonder she was stooping to sneaking invitations for social activities through the journals.
Despite Parvati's House, Pansy had found her rather fashionable in school (though she'd never admit it). She thought the girl needed better priorities, but she hadn't really gone out of her way to torment her like she had Hermione or any other dour and boring individual. Pansy could almost pity Parvati then, thinking she was passing up the chance to be brilliant. Well, years later, the women still held differing opinions, but only one of them seemed content. Pansy hated that. When had she lost it all? She had all her money and a steady stream of one night stands, but she had no substance in her life. Draco had broken her heart and shattered her self-worth.
Even sitting at the table lined with expensive cloth in her best robes, Pansy looked unhappy. Her expression was hard and her eyes blank as she drew her wine glass to her lips.
"Well, happy birthday."
