rhavaniel, samathael & mathyn Elynost | to the Festival of Lights | Intro Post-in progress
The further they had gotten from the sand pits where the twins had left Amryss and Eli the colder it became. It was always colder the closer one got to the mountains, but it barely phased the twins now. The trees, once covered in frost were now gathering snow upon their branches; an occasional creak of branches breaking the silent blanket that snow cast. A crisp, clean scent permeated the air. The sort of smell that was uniquely associated with Kalas en Mereth, the Festival of Lights. It was the smell of old magic and home. Grinning, the woman removed a glove she lifted her hand, letting the fat flakes fall into her palm as they rode.
By the time they had reached deep within the snowy expanse of Elynost the horses were hoof deep in snow. A new smell caught her attention; burning firewood from what she guessed was a nearby home. Pursing her lips, Rhavaniel began going through the supplies she had packed for the horses, denoting quickly that they had enough supplies but the distressed cry of an animal in trouble quickly took precedence over her previous thoughts.
“Mathael.” she said, the previous common tongue she had been using with the humans long since gone. Concern was in her voice, noting that the animal sounded like a deer. A doe if her ears did not deceive her. Not something one would eat for dinner. Snapping the reins the horse and rider shifted course, treading carefully through the growing snow in order to prevent the same fate of the animal they came upon.
“Oh, it is a doe!” She exclaimed, the smile evident in her voice. Dismounting, the blonde swiftly moved towards the hole that the sweet little thing seemed to have stumbled into--no doubt from the snow. Kneeling down she leaned over before looking back at her brother. “I’m going to get it.” Turning back to the doe she began to coo at it, though no doubt was speaking to it in her mind. Calm down, precious. I’m going to get you out of there. And with that she disappeared into the hole, her cloak, and sun-lightened hair trailing behind her.
