Derek ignored the other two while the girl did her thing. He wasn't quite sure what she was doing until he felt the pain begin to fade away. His eyebrows rose and he studied her curiously. She was a witch, obviously, but he didn't say anything in front of the others. It was her secret to keep, and he would respect that. "My name's Derek Hale," he replied. "And you are?" Because it seemed like a good idea to know who she was, if this was a hint at what she could do.
"Thanks," he said with genuine gratitude. The pain was gone, and he could see he was starting to heal a little faster too. It still wasn't as fast as he was used to, but he would be up and about faster than he had been expecting.
As they moved in to help him up, Derek was better able to help himself too, though he still couldn't quite manage to stand on his own, much to his chagrin. "Yes, barricade yourselves somewhere. It's probably too late to run now."
At that moment a loud predatory howl could be heard throughout the school, from the general direction of the gym.
