Until Allison realized what the Argents really did, the sway Gerard held over her family wasn't that unusual. It was something she'd grown to accept, even though she didn't entirely like her grandfather. He wasn't someone she felt she could ever turn to in times of trouble and he made the house distinctly uncomfortable when he was visiting.
After the hunter revelation, Allison had to look at everything with a critical eye. Women were raised to be leaders and the men to be soldiers - if that was the case, why was Gerard the voice of power? And why had Kate been overlooked? For that matter, what had happened with her grandmother? No one ever seemed to talk about her, and Allison didn't know if she lead the clan at one point or not.
Too many secrets, too many people who kept their cards close. Allison was thankful she had Angel, who she could trust, and her dad was at least a bit reasonable.
"In general? I've hit 60 yards, but the impact wasn't as powerful, and my aim wasn't great." It hadn't been a bad shot - her teacher had praised her, actually - but the lack of actually hitting the center of her target and the lack of force had been annoying.
Allison followed Kate further into the woods, hoping Kate knew where she was going.
