Despite the disappointment that Kate wasn't going to be at the fair, it possibly was for the best. She and Angel were planning on going, dressed as zombies, and though they hadn't actually made plans, Allison hoped to bump into Isaac at some point during the night. It would possibly allow her to finally introduce Angel to Isaac, and get Angel on her side about introducing him to her parents. Kate could be a bit intense, which Isaac had already encountered, so catching him without Kate there would be ideal.
Plus, she got to spend time with Kate during their training, which just about made up for the situation.
They pulled up to the beginning of one of the trails and Kate parked the Kia off to the side, and Allison climbed out of the car, reaching for her crossbow. She was skilled with actual bows, and a quick hand with knives, but the crossbow was quickly becoming her favorite, though it wasn't the traditional weapon favored by archers.
"I always wondered why Mom and Dad encouraged me to go into archery," Allison mused, as she counted out her bolts. "It wasn't that practical. But easier to explain than trying to teach me how to use a handgun." She tucked the bolts into a quiver, leaving one in her hand, and thought for a second. "Do you think they'd want me to give up archery when I turn 18 and use guns more often?"
Allison was a fair shot, knew how to handle a gun, and respected what a handgun meant, but she didn't like them. They certainly didn't compare to her bows and crossbows. She was counting on a scholarship based on her abilities, and handguns wouldn't accomplish that.
