Allison closed her Physics book, pushing it aside on the desk and stood up, yawning as she rubbed at her eyes. It was later than she liked to be studying, but with a potential quiz coming up, she didn’t want to slack off on her homework or note-taking.
She left her room, noticing that Angel’s door was closed, so she decided to forgo bugging her cousin to wander downstairs, pouring herself a glass of milk and carrying it into the living room. She curled up in her favorite spot - the middle of the couch, tucking her legs under her as she sat. The light of the moon shone in through the windows, the full moon - the Hunter’s Moon and wasn’t that a trip? - nearly bright enough to illuminate the entire room.
Halloween was coming up, and the fair, and Kate was gone for the time being, and while the first two weren’t connected to the latter in way Allison could see, something felt kind of off and odd about the night. About the entire week, in fact.
As she glanced up, Allison swore she saw a weird shadow moving outside the window. But when she glanced again, there was nothing there, and she shook her head. “The full moon’s making you hallucinate,” she muttered. “There’s no monsters out there.”
