Re: Peter + OPEN
The glittering lights of the fairgrounds were dazzling for many civilians of the small town. It was too easy to be caught up in the excitement of the rides and games of chance, or gorge upon the scrumptious if unhealthy food. Who could say no to a fried Twinkie? Or the colorful bags of cotton candy? Reese could. It wasn't that he hated sweets, but it brought on sensations of nausea in memory of a former foster family. As a result, he only occasionally indulged his sweet tooth. Meat on the other hand, was the most important aspect of his diet.
For lack of anything better to do, he had accompanied his fellow foster siblings to the event. It could provide a necessary distraction for a meaningless holiday, and plenty of easy marks. The residents of the sleepy town were adult sized lambs, eyes blind to the danger that lurked in their midst and how vulnerable their wallets were. Wasn't it better, that someone in need relieved them of their money than being hoodwinked by the vendors?
The fairgrounds was crawling with various individuals in costume, and a few without. The actor within couldn't resist this particular allure. A familiar pirate, swaggered among the crowd -- steps unsteady as if intoxicated but with enough of a sashay that it was evident, someone had done their research into the character. Of course, this meant bumping into people now and then, to mutter slurred apologies and exaggerated hand movements to ward off potential physical repercussions. But who wanted to actually hit Captain Jack? Nobody. No.. they wanted to take a quick selfie.
And Jack? Oh he couldn't resist a scoundrel flash of pearly whites, especially if flanked by pretty girls. But more importantly, sticky fingers found loose bills or wallets that were not properly secured. It was important not to be obvious about the theft, only skimming a bit from the top and discreetly losing identifying objects a few feet from their owners.
