"Yeah," Jackson replied, a non-committal tone to his voice. His investment in the excuse or explanation or whatever it was had clearly started to wane, and it was only a matter of time before he was blatantly disinterested. It was a good thing there were more than enough people in the school willing to organize parties that he could just drop into that he never had to worry about arranging one himself. There were too many finicky details that doing so would drive him crazy and it would be altogether too much attention and effort for something he didn't really have a strong feeling for. Well, he had a strong feeling of apathy, but that seemed contradictory. "Sure."
Listening to her talk about bestial urges and animalistic sides, Jackson didn't really know what to say in response. It was a strange conversation topic and much more in depth than their usual talks went. If she expected to get some sort of philosophical interpretation of the true nature of man out of Jackson, she was sorely mistaken. It wasn't that he couldn't keep up intellectually, no, it was the fact that her weirdly passionate speech almost made him uncomfortable that he didn't want to take it any further. "Again: whatever you say." A lame answer, but it was enough for him.
"I guess not," he answered, conjuring up his usual and cocky smile. It was commendable how quickly and effortlessly he could hide behind that look and most people never were the wiser to what was going on behind his eyes. "Just tell me when to show up."
