[ Beacon Hills High ] Allison & Lydia Thread: The Dreaded Group Project Who: Allison Argent and Lydia Martin What: The dreaded group project in AP Literature & Composition When: Wednesday, August 26 Where: Beacon Hills High School, AP Lit & Composition class with Mrs. Ramsey* Rating: G Status: Finished
Note: I went with a random name for a teacher. Can be edited/changed if this doesn't work/we pick up an actual teacher for the course.
"Now, for this next project, you'll be working in pairs," Mrs. Ramsey announced to the class at large. Groans and grumblings followed, and people even started to shuffle around to pick pairs. But the teacher held up her hands, stopping everyone with a sharp, "Settle down, class. I'll assign partners. Each pair is to pick a short story in the textbook and write an analysis. It will be due on Monday, so whatever you don't finish today can be done at home. And don't try to foster off the paper on one person, or divide it into parts. I want discussion and agreement, or even argument. And trust me, I will know."
Allison sighed, propping her chin on her hand and watching the teacher. She wasn't looking forward to the assignment - group projects rarely went well, in Allison's opinion. Sometimes she was lucky and ended up working with someone who was decent and actually did their work, but there was always a little awkwardness.
"Allison and Lydia," Mrs. Ramsey announced, and Allison glanced around the room, focusing on the petite redhead she was going to be working with on this project. Lydia seemed focused enough, so that was a plus.
Finally, the teacher finished calling out partners, and told them to arrange themselves, and Allison dutifully gathered her book bag, moving to Lydia's desk while dodging the dangerous desks being shuffled around. It was amazing how the noise level in a classroom could grow into a dull roar in a matter of moments. Allison sank into the empty chair in front of Lydia, sitting at an angle so she could look at her partner.
"Hi," she said, with a bright grin, "I'm Allison."
