There was something about early autumn mornings that appealed to Laura. Though California lacked the obvious shift in seasons that the East coast had, the atmosphere seemed to be different from the harsh summer days. The light was a little more golden, while the air had picked up a crisp feeling and carried the scent of autumn.
She'd gone for a run that morning before she'd gone off to fulfill duties at her various freelance gigs, despite the exhaustion that still lingered a day after the lunar eclipse. And rather than playing her normal boisterous, up-tempo running playlist, she'd gone for melodic.
Big mistake. Even now, hours after that run, having dealt with numbers and payroll nuisances and checking her own portfolio, she felt slightly wistful. It didn't help that her family felt like it was fracturing. So many secrets, so many problems.
She'd arranged to meet Anna for lunch, so at least she had an opportunity to spend time with her older sister.
