The words were flowing through his mind. He was listening to his cousin speaking to him and knew that she was being sincere. He knew that she was feeling what he was and trying her best help him with this. He still couldn't believe the way that Samantha had looked at him, like he was someone or something she didn't even know, something that she hated. He really thought she would be okay with it, if not because of the way he felt about her and thought she felt about him, but because of how long they had been together.
When Penthea took his hand, he snapped back from his mind and looked her in the eye. He could see the hurt in her eyes, thinking that was probably how he looked to her at the moment and tried to compose himself. He was at least partly successful and was able to speak about it a little more. "I know. It was stupid of me not to use the truth spell, but I really thought she'd be okay. We'd been together so long, you know?" He knew he could get past this and he would, but it had just happened and he was still facing all of the pain.
