Parker had barely managed to keep her balance, but was already on her knees to scoop up the mess she'd made. How could she have just walked right into someone? Really, that only happened in the movies! Or in situations of distraction, like walking and watching a phone instead of the path in front of her.
Just like planned, the first thing on top in the pile of disarray that she was trying to clean up just happened to be the necklace she didn't see. It had been nothing more than a glint in the light that had passed her eye without notice.
And then, she was somewhere else, almost confused at the sudden change of scenery. It quickly turned to a curious wonder when she realized what was happening- it was another vision. It had the same tone and focus as the previously induced one, a cinematic film noir playing out before her eyes. This time, a few things had color, speckled about different things like someone forgot to fill in the rest of the sections.
Everything was spinning, like she was twirling around in a circle, her neck craned toward the sky and the stars that filled it. As her view came down, Pallie's face appeared, smiling and dancing along side. The chill of the evening air nipped at her pink tinted cheeks, the wind blowing the hair over all passerbys.
It looked like a town street, but a very unfamiliar one, a little like something she'd once seen in a movie. It seemed warm and old and new all at the same time. The cars that lined the streets had the steering wheels all on the wrong side. Come to think of it, all the cars seemed to be moving wrong.
Just out the corner of her eye, a light turned red. Pallie starting walking in a brisk motion, and Parker followed.
A shrill, screeching sound of rubber and pavement resounded and the next thing she knew, there was pain flooding through her right side. She could feel the side of her head crack against something hard, something that cracked too. She could feel every bone in her neck that snapped when the weightless force of the air made her feel like she was flying, and then she couldn't feel anything at all except the crushing pressure she felt in her neck and the burn from something wet and red in one of her eyes.
Suddenly, everything was still. The sounds around her were fuzzy and distorted, warped in a sense that sent an awful chill of dread through her. Someone was touching her face, fingers frantically pulling aside what felt like her hair. She thought she heard her name, but she couldn't be sure. Her vision seemed lopsided, like one eye just didn't seem to work. And everything was strewn by something dark and runny, something almost black, but reflected a glittering crimson sparkle in the moonlight.
Parker gasped out loud, losing her balance and falling flat on her backside when she came out of it. It took longer than a single moment for her to realize she could move again. Her hands instinctively, immediately found her neck, rubbing it in immense relief, tears of shaken fear welling in her eyes. Had- had she just seen her death!?
