She stared at him for a moment, studying him. Was it weird that he seemed oddly familiar? She tried to place his face, but there was nothing at all, almost like she was trying to remember someone she'd never met. All she felt was that happiness, and it was disconcerting to her. Who was that happy with no conflicting feelings mixed in? A rare thing, indeed.
Perhaps she was simply being too snippy. Hospitals had a way with getting under her skin as it was, and it was making her thoroughly judgmental. Hell, she didn't know that guy; maybe he really was just genuinely uplifted.
"Uh, no, I mean, yes," she stammered a little over her words, shaking her head as if she were trying to shake off the supernatural foreknowledge. Because he was explaining. Who wouldn't be excited to meet new family, especially someone you'd been waiting to see? "Oh, well that's wonderful! I'm sure she'll be very sweet."
When he held out the necklace, it caught her eye like nothing she'd ever seen before. It seemed to call out to her, the glint of the ruby having a sort of innate lure. It looked old and mystical, something from perhaps a different time. "It- it's beautiful," she said almost breathlessly, leaning toward it to see it closer.
