It has been said that Sylvie Fawcett in the dungeons outside of Potions time is a sign of mischief brewing (at least, I like to think it has) and this time is no exception. Although it's not that much mischief - just a bit of a snog with a seventh year Slytherin. The dark corners of the dungeon are perfect for it and the idea that Snape could catch you any moment (although I avoid it most of the time) is just a bit exhilarating. All right, I am carrying contraband items - the skiving snackbox items Fred Weasley had given me in case it turned out he had no idea what to do with his lips and I needed a quick getaway. It's probably better he did know what he was doing as since I haven't tested them yet, I don't know that they'll work. I need to get on that. Anyway. Point being I'm leaving the dungeons and as I turn to go up the stairs I see someone's also attempting to leave the dungeon area. A yearmate of mine. Greengrass. Hm, I wonder what the likelihood of her snitching is if she sees me down here when I'm not really supposed to be. Well, I'll just stay far enough behind her and if I'm quiet she might not notice me until we're both in the normal corridors. Unfortunately, my middle name's not 'furtive' and while I'm pondering that, I, quite stupidly, almost trip over someone's stray pet cat and with a yowl from the animal and expletives from me, any hope of her not noticing someone's behind her is gone. |

Having lived in a castle for the past 4 years and a fairly old manor house even before that, Daphne was used to hearing so many strange sounds that she didn't think to turn around at every single one. They certainly didn't make her jump anymore. Besides there were always so many little 1st years running around the corridors that it probably wasn't worth turning around even if you did hear someone behind you. But the big screech of a cat as it apparently got into someone's way? Now there's something you don't ignore. "I don't suppose you could possibly make more noise?" The sarcastic voice rang out as Daphne stopped in her tracks, unhurriedly turning to see just who it was who had caused the disturbance. Any further venom that might have left her lips was halted by the fact that this wasn't just any random 1st year. This, in fact, was a yearmate of hers. She liked to play these particular situations a bit more carefully. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

"Well, I wouldn't if your housemates would keep control of their pets," I retort back nearly instantly. The beast that has betrayed my presence has already slunk back into the shadows so I can't get a good look at it and find out whose cat it is. If I had a cat, it would certainly be better behaved, though. Or maybe not, as I'm hardly the beacon for good behaviour here. Well, now that my cover is blown, I suppose I ought to wait and see what her next move is. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

"Would you like me to apologise for the fact that my housemates' animals have animalistic natures?" She asked, a half-smile crossing her lips. She didn't particularly like pets -- the thought of having to look after anyone but number one wasn't particularly appealing to her -- but few generalised insults regarding the snake house ever went without retort by a member of said house. "Because I could if it would make you feel better." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

Touché. "Unless that was your cat, you've no need to apologise," I reply smoothly, "But if I can't fault animals for being animalistic, you can't fault me for being nosiy when they nearly cause me to fall over." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

The thing that kept Daphne from being the typical Slytherin was that she didn't insult people just for the hell of it. Well, okay, sometimes she insulted people just for the hell of it. But most of the time? They had to earn it. And in the same way they had to earn her respect. That wasn't really as hard to do as people might have thought. "Fair enough," she paused, looking thoughtful although any and all venom had long left her expression. "Although I can't help but wonder what you're doing down here. It's always so dim in the dungeons that you're bound to trip over something at some point." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

"Only when Filch hasn't been keeping up with his job or Peeves has been around lately. Usually the floors are clear," I shrug, "And I was studying." The lie comes out smoothly enough - I've had years of practice after all, though the lack of books in my arms might be a bit of a giveaway. Bleh. "Sort of." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

The 'sort of' addition relaxed Daphne's eyes which had become steadily more narrowed since the 'studying' remark. It wasn't as if she exactly cared what the Ravenclaw was doing lurking down in the dungeons but there was nothing about her to back up that she had been studying. It was just as well that she decided to add the last remark to suggest otherwise. "Because the dungeons are such a wonderful place to study," she said, voice taking on somewhat of a sing-song quality to show that she wasn't convinced. She was even smirking a little. "Must be all that natural light." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

"It's a wonder you guys manage then, isn't it?" I reply breezily. Okay so, obviously she didn't believe me. I suppose I could just fess up. Granted, with as sneaky as some Slytherins can be, you don't necessarily want to give them an advantage over you, but on the other hand, it's not like people don't know I have...shall we say 'loose lips' already, so off hand, I don't see how it can hurt. "At any rate, the lighting's perfect for studying a little bit of human anatomy," I offer after a moment. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

She didn't even want to ask. It wasn't that she was a prude -- even if she had been brought up to be that way -- it was just that she neither wanted or needed any further explanation. Slyvie had said enough. "Right. I'm sure it is." Daphne didn't sound uncomfortable any more aloof, conveying perfectly that she couldn't possibly care less about what the Ravenclaw really was doing down in the dungeons. It's been conveyed perfectly, and in the best way possible for me. I'd much rather have her not caring what I was doing down here. "Indeed. At any rate, as nice as it is down here, I do have a bit of Transfiguration that needs to be studied as well, and my text is up in my room. So if you don't mind me going off, I should probably get on that." (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

It wasn't as if the two girls were having an especially pleasant conversation. Actually it was probably barely civil, just waiting for one or the other to cross the line. Daphne wasn't about to prolong it when Sylvie obviously wanted to go. "Go ahead," she told her yearmate with little (if any) inflection to her voice. She didn't hate the girl ... whatever that counted for. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

Well no, it's not necessarily the most friendly conversation, but I figure it's better to attempt to be polite or something rather than just shooting off. I have enough enemies that if people are willing to be civil with me, I'd rather keep it that way. "See you in class then," I tell her, and break off in the direction that will lead me back to my own tower and Transfiguration. (Reply to this)(Parent) (Thread) |

Daphne gave only a nod as the other girl headed away, making no movement herself. She would mill around in the dungeons for a little while longer, she decided. Call her true Slytherin at heart but she rather liked the cold quiet. |
