Letter from Dumbledore
LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY madworldnpc)
In difficult times it is crucial that we stand united against those who would wish to harm us. The Ministry would want you to believe that there is nothing to worry about, that the sporadic and strange disappearances are simply occurring at random and are in no way connected. With any luck, they will be correct in this assumption, however, it is prudent that we prepare for the event that they are not.
As you have noticed, you have recieved this journal with your list of school supplies. These aren't just ordinary journals, but are connected to all other journals as a means of communicating with one another. It is my hope that these will help students branch out and communicate with those they don't typically communicate with. Every student from fourth years on up are expected to write weekly within the journal. Select Alumni have also recieved a journal, and are encouraged to give their sound advice and encouragement to the students through the use of the journals.
Your Heads and Prefects are instructed to patrol the journals as they would the halls of our esteemed school. They can and will dock points for inappropriate activities on the journals - so keep your entries and replies appropriate and respectful.
You may write in the journal about whatever it is that you would like to write in. Professors may incorporate the use of journals in an assignment, as they, too, have access to this network of communication. It is a closed network, and only those who attend Hogwarts, or were Alumni hand selected by the Professors of this school, will be able to utilize this tool.
As a part of this assignment, students will be required to write an entry on a specific topic that I will give them once a month. You will have the entire month to ponder the topic, but anyone who does not write about it within the month's time will earn themselves a detention. Exemplary responses will earn, at the discretion of myself and your Professors, House points.
I have now gone on plenty long enough about the journals, I wish to bid you farewell and hope that the rest of your summer goes swimmingly.
Headmaster Albus Dumbledore
[Enclosed with the letter is the back to school materials list, the journal, and Prefect/Head badges and rounds schedule. Selected Alumni got a similar letter about unity and setting examples for the younger generations.]
