WHO Dorcas Meadowes
WHEN Monday morning at 9 AM
WHERE Charms classroom
WHAT Prompt #3 Charms Mishaps: Everyone in the 7th Year N.E.W.T level charms class has their personalities switched with their partner for the afternoon, as a charm goes bad during class. This takes place MONDAY.
RATING PG
The task didn’t seem that hard. It was a little more complicated than their usual stuff but Dorcas knew this was to be expected. After all, N.E.W.T. level Charms class wasn’t always going to be easy.
A multiple personality charm was to be done. Something to turn one happy jolly person to a more reserved and timid being. It was only a temporary charm so it would wear off – if done correctly – after the receiver would wake up from a sleep. Of course it wasn’t rational to try it on a human subject just yet, so Dorcas was staring at a tiny little mouse behind a cage seated on Professor Flitwick’s desk. The poor thing shivered and sat huddled in one corner, farthest away from the teacher peering through it.
The task? Give the mouse an exact opposite characteristic that it would be bouncing all over the cage, eager to get out.
“Miss Meadowes… would you like to demonstrate how its done?”
Dorcas smiled as she stood up and walked over. “Certainly, Professor.” As Flitwick told her the proper words and showed her the wrist movement, Dorcas rolled up her sleeves to give it a go. Concentrate on specific the personality trait needed to be given.
And she did so… that she didn’t really catch the last of Flitwick’s words as he went through the wrist movement again. Oh, yeah, Dorcas had it. She was fine.
Raising her arm, she repeated the words in her head, speaking them clearly, and jerked her wrist in a circular motion – instead of the softer movement that Flitwick had tried to emphasize on.
Dorcas raised her head at the class, noting their confused looks and glances at one another. “Did… I do it right?”
A sigh from Flitwick confirmed it. “That, well, actually resulted in something else…”
Oops.
