WHO Persephone and Benjy
WHEN Thursday afternoon (pre-dated)
WHERE Out on the grounds, near the lake.
WHAT Oh, lunch and some baked cookies from home.
RATING TBA
Persephone held a picnic basket eagerly waiting outside the Ravenclaw commons door. She'd nicked some sandwiches from the kind house elves in the kitchens (though she wouldn't tell Benjy), and had written to her father earlier and therefore received a packaged of freshly baked cookies from home that morning. She paced outside the door, very excited and only a little nervous, but she wouldn't acknowledge it to herself.
"It's just Benjy, not a great affair. Nothing to fret about," Persephone said out loud to herself, trying to sound slightly indifferent.
Why had he agreed to this? One, it was kind of going behind Davey's back, because Davey had asked her out too and two, it was really nervewracking to be going out to lunch with Persephone of all people. Benjy didn't fool himself into thinking it was a date, just a friendly meeting, but it didn't stop him from changing his shirt three times and now he was nearly late and pretty much tripped the entire way down the spiral staircase, landing in front of Persephone on his knees. Benjy quickly picked himself up and brushed off his trousers, flushing slightly, "Sorry, that last step always catches me."
Benjy flushed a little more and reached out to take the picnic basket for her, "Here, I can carry that for you. Where did you want to go?" he said, hesitating a moment before offering his other elbow. He figured that's what you were supposed to do, he'd never done any sort of date kind of thing. There was this girl, Caroline, back home who used to bring him sandwiches when he was working on the farm and she tried to kiss him once but Benjy turned his head so her lips caught his cheek - he hadn't really known what she'd been planning, how could he - but now she was being courted by the mayor's son. It was probably for the best, but, that was pretty much the extent of his whole 'dating' experience.
Persephone laughed a little when Benjy tripped down the stairs; she didn't mean anything cruel by it, and shut up as soon as she realized she sounded like her mother when she laughed like that.
"Oh, thank you!" Persephone said, as Benjy offered to take the basket, and hesitated as well as he offered his elbow - was this a date? Did he think this was a date? She wasn't dressed nice enough for a date, and what about Davey?
Persephone smiled and slipped her hand through his elbow anyway, and began to walk with him. She had reasoned to follow his lead, and not worry about it; it was only lunch.
"I was thinking by the lake, while it's not terrible outside," She thought, even though Saturday was supposed to be better weather.
"Unless you have a better idea, of course."
"The lake sounds fine," Benjy said, glancing at her nervously before leading the way out to the lake, making sure to glance around for any stray animals. Most of them had been collected but there were still a few on the loose and then he'd have to take care of that and their lunch would be ruined, which Benjy definitely did not. He focused on putting one foot in front of the other and not tripping again. He really didn't like her laughing at him.
"How are you? And Bat? Has he recovered?" Benjy asked concerned.
Once they had gotten into step together, walking with him wasn't bad at all, they almost seemed to glide despite the nervousness of the pair.
"Bat is fine, completely un-phased. I'm really happy you found him, I don't know what would have happened if he got hurt."
Persephone frowned for a second, recalling her brother harassing her about Bat being helpless and weak. She wanted to hit him in the gut at times like that, and wished she could.
"Did you guys have a rough night last night? A lot of people hurt? Whoever let the animals out should have detention for a month as far as I'm concerned."
"I'm glad, that's really good," Benjy smiled as they made their way to the lake. "It was difficult, that's for sure. There were a lot of people hurt and really I didn't get hurt though. I set up some shields so people could get into the tower and we spent most of our time trying to calm students down rather than herding the animals. They weren't so bad, just scared, like Bat, and looking for a place to hide."
Benjy nodded in agreement with her punishment, "It doesn't look like they'll be found, even though everyone knows who's behind it. It's a darn shame too, because they definitely need a lesson. They can't cause mayhem and destruction without getting any responsibility out of it. But I'm glad you're okay."
"I'm glad everything has worked out alright though, nothing too terrible. They're really lucky the animals weren't more dangerous."
Persephone was never really impressed with any of the pranks the four Gryffindors pulled frequently, though she didn't hate the boys by any means. They were similar to her brother - incredibly rude and at times quite nasty, but hard not to smile at.
"I'm glad you're ok as well, I'd be pretty upset if you'd been hurt."
Persephone blinked as they walked out the doors to the lake, the sun shining and a few random students scattered around the school grounds enjoying the last days of warmth. She was glad she didn't see her brother out, the last thing she needed was him snitching to Mother.
As they reached the lake, Persephone looked around for a good place to sit. There was an open spot, not around anyone else by a tree near the lake. The ground looked flat enough to sit and eat on for a while, so she motioned over to the area to Benjy.
"How about over there?"
