VERY IMPORTANT PM TO THE USO CLUB
LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY xxquitefrankxx)
Well, we talked with Professor Dumbledore and he agreed that the Involvement Faire/Picnic was a good idea and he even had some input as well. So here’s what we’ve got so far, starting with the faire and moving on to the picnic.
Faire
-The Faire will be held on a Saturday from 12-4 -All students will be invited. -Light snacks, both muggle (popcorn) and magical (the usual) will be served. -All official student organizations will be permitted a booth. -A stage will be set up for demonstrations and a time will be allotted to any club that wishes to participate. (Ex: The dueling club can stage a duel, the DADA club can run through some hexes and deflections, the Transfiguration club can… transfigure something)
Picnic
-The picnic will be held the same evening from 4-8 -The picnic will be for students in years 4-7 only. -Dinner type picnic food and a HUGE assortment of desserts (According to Professor Dumbledore who had a gleam in his eye) will be prepared by the House Elves. -Games that will promote house unity will be played. So far a three-legged race and a relay race have been approved. -Kissing booths featuring alumni ARE being permitted, and tickets will be sold for a quid, all proceeds benefiting the children’s wing at St. Mungo’s. -The stage will be used for a musical group of our choosing! -There was also a suggestion for a Muggle Dunk Tank. For those not familiar with this concept, someone sits above a pool of water and people pay to toss a ball at a target and if they hit it, the person sitting above the pool falls in. Once again the cost would be a quid for a ticket and the proceeds would go to St. Mungo’s. I’m more than willing to volunteer for this for a half an hour and it’s been suggested that other prefects or perhaps the Heads agree to it as well in an attempt to make us seem more accessible. Would anyone else be willing?
____
Although I’m glad to take charge, I know there’s absolutely no way I could arrange all of this. For one, my musical tastes, while varied, are apparently wretched according to Enid, so there’s no point in me attempting to choose a band. I’m going to list out what needs to be done, please sign up below with what you plan to help with. Obviously every task can have several people running it and it’s up to you how you work together. I realize not all jobs are equally as fun but they’re all equally important. As people choose them I’ll keep a running list of who is doing what.
1. Create fliers to promote Faire and Picnic - Beverly 2. Contact heads of all clubs to register for booth space and then assign booths on the day of the event - Leslie 3. Contact heads of clubs about demonstrations and then assign times for the stage - Joshua 4. Take charge of the games for the picnic. Choose games, select prizes, run them on the day of the picnic. - Matthew Bell 5. Set up relay race choosing events that will test both athletic ability and mental acuity. Raise awareness ahead of time that relay teams will need to be one person from each house and include both sexes, and keep track of teams that sign up. 6. Write to bands and find one who will perform. We have a budget for this so whomever does this needs to speak with Professor Dumbledore as well. - Alice 7. Contact alumni about Kissing Booth. – Frank So Enid doesn’t get a chance to flirt with the older blokes. 8. Volunteer for time spent in the dunk tank. - Frank, Matthew 9. Suggestions for other tasks that need to be done? If I’ve missed something that you want to be in charge of or want to be involved with, leave it in the comments. 10. Speak with the Professors about Pieing them - Joshua 11. Set up and Tear down - EVERYONE
Frank: So I'll get the comments started. I suppose I'll sort of head up the entire thing and make sure all the tasks are getting done, and though we haven't discussed it I'm sure Joshua and Emmy will be doing the same. I'll also contact the alumni about the kissing booth and I will volunteer for a half an hour in the dunk tank if we end up having one.
Alice: I'd be more than happy to make fliers. Or, if need be, I can be on music recruiting duty as well. It's your call!
Frank: I don't know that you couldn't do both, but since Heliotrope is ace at making fliers and I'm not sure that any one else has better taste than you with music, I'd say you should head that up if you don't mind. But really, truly, it's up to you.
Matthew: You actually got the go ahead for a kissing booth? Blimey.
I'd like to give the games a go and if you end up struggling to find volunteers for this 'dunk tank' thingy then I'm all for it.
Frank: Thanks, mate, I couldn't believe he said yes to the kissing booth either but he seemed rather pleased with the idea honestly.
I'll put you down for the games AND the dunk tank, Matthew. We're going to need eight volunteers if we all split it into half hour shifts and if we get more interest than that we could make the shifts shorter.
Matthew: Right ho! I reckon we should get the heads of houses to form a relay team- force them to set a good example and make the whole thing truly inter house. Imagine Slughorn trying to
Frank: Now that's REALLY brill! I'll talk to McG tonight and see what she says!
Leslie: Are we all going to help with the set up and tear down of this?
I can contact all the heads of the clubs to register for booth space and assign booths on the day of the event.
Frank: You know, I hadn't mentioned it, but I think setting up and tearing down will likely need to be done by all of us, and great, I'll sign you up for contacting them about booth space!
Beverly: I can see if I can work on some fliers. When d'you think would be the best time to hang them and/or pass them out?
Frank: Probably not for a few days, or until we get the exact date set. And as for where to put them, I'd say everywhere!
Beverly: Everywhere works!
Is this pretty much a set idea of what's going to be at each event, or do you think there will be more activities for either or both?
Frank: I suppose that depends on any additional ideas people come up with. It's certainly not set in stone yet.
Josh: I will speak to Amala this evening and if she gives the approval of such an idea. I will address our prefects and request that each prefect spends a shift in the dunk tank.
We've got students and alumni both involved in the charitable events of this picnic... what about Professors? Perhaps we could manage to convince them to take a shift on the dunk tank? Or even we could have a separate booth for them... "Pie the Professor" perhaps? Who wouldn't want to spend a sickle to attempt to throw a pie in their professor's face? (It also goes quite well with the desert theme...)
I will also take on the responsibility to contact student and professor heads of the various student groups.
Leslie volunteered to contact the groups about registering booths. I'll contact them and arrange a schedule for demonstrations.
Frank: Wow, the Pie the Professor idea is pretty stellar, Joshua. Do you think you could contact the professors about it? Being head boy and all I'm guessing it might be best if it was coming from you.
And I'll put you down as in charge of the scheduling the demonstrations. Thanks for taking it on and for talking to Amaya about the dunk tank.
Heliotrope: I just finished picking flobberworms out of my hair after slipping into a whole mess of them, Meghan's been assaulted by a niffler and now THIS?!
This is an outrage! Painstaking planning and I need to find a replacement and now everything's gone completely mad!
Frank, I'm angry!
Frank: I'm sorry Heliotrope, loads of people are. I bet choosing something to be in charge of will make you feel better!
Enid: I'll do whatever you need me to do, Frankie!
When I'm done rounding up animals, that is.
Frank: Thanks sis. I'll see what's left after the others choose and maybe you could do it that way I'm not spreading myself too thin.
Michael: Should've commented earlier, but I've been a bit tied up with capturing all those animals that've been set loose.
Offering to volunteer to spend time in the dunk tank or is it going to just be with the Prefects? I'll assist with whatever I can, really. Is there anything specific that I can attend to?
Frank: No, I think there are likely quite a few people who'd like to dunk you Michael. I'll put you down for it and let you know where else we'll need you.
Matilda: I can help Alice with the recruiting, I know I said I would before.
