LJ-SEC: (ORIGINALLY POSTED BY wiggleswade)
Who: Dorcas Meadowes and Dempster Wiggleswade When: September 6, 1976. Where: From the Ravenclaw common room and beyond! (I'll fix this later.) Rating: PG (language)
While Dempster was in his dorm at the time of Dorcas's warning and he could've just barricaded himself inside, Arnold was also in there. And also, it wasn't very fun to just move his trunk up against the door and wait. Instead, he immediately took off. He went down the boys' dormitory stairs two at a time, and slammed the door to the dormitories behind him, lest she was in hers.
He was just this blob of faded blue robes running through the common room. Since he ran about often, he could avoid most of the students and furniture that were in his way. There was a small second lost as he waited for the door to swing open. His footsteps had been muffled by the room's carpeting, but they echoed loudly as he managed to somehow go down the spiral stairs of the tower without falling.
Getting Dorcas' hopes up was one thing. Getting them up and then crushing them was something entirely different. So when she had written her message she had assumed she'd have to barge into his dormitory and try to chase him around the four-poster bed.
Didn't expect him actually running out into the common room. Soon as she knew, she took off after him, running out into the staircase, and only pausing on top of the steps to make sure that was the direction he had run toward.
Dorcas could vaguely hear the footsteps and she sprinted down after him. "Dempster! You know you're not going to get away!" she yelled, thankful that at least she had her wand with her. If she wanted to cheat, she'd just have to throw a hex at his legs. Except.. not so soon!
Dempster was rubbish with a wand anyway, and hadn't even bothered bringing his. If he had, maybe he could've gone faster or maybe disguised all the noise he was making. But he was used to running down the tight stairs and avoiding the students going up them, and he even jumped from the fifth step and into the hall. After pausing briefly to see where Dorcas was, he turned left. His response to her was just a laugh.
Okay, she had to admit, his laugh was contagious, even if he could be a tad bit annoying at times. Considering his footsteps were terribly audible Dorcas had no problem following. But she had to pause as well in the same spot to catch her breath quickly before running after him again. "Wiggles!" And she had to suppress a laugh after calling him that.
Hearing that word brought a grimace to Dempster's face, and he stumbled a little but kept running. That name belonged to something like a bloody puppy; and whilst his sister had remarked he had the energy of one, she didn't really count at all. He rounded a corner, and then there was silence from him. There were still the odd passing students and the echoing through the halls from their running. However, faint snickering could be heard.
Dorcas reached one of the intersections of hallways and she had to stop, looking from the right corridor to the left. Okay, he obviously hadn't gone ahead otherwise she'd see him. Either he was finally smart enough to mask his footsteps or he was nearby somewhere. Disillusionment charm maybe? Although she wasn't sure if he would know how to use one, but she could hear the snickering so it had to be a possibility.
Actually, Dempster couldn't cast a disillusion charm if his life depended on it. It was a wonder he managed wards for journals. Instead, he was hiding behind a tapestry, one hand on his mouth to muffle the sound and the other pushing the fabric slightly to get a view of Dorcas in order to properly jump out when she was near enough.
"Okay, Wiggles, where are you hiding?" Dorcas said out loud, walking around in a circle while searching out the place. A few students passing by were giving her looks but she could really pay them any attention at all.
Her hand was poised incognito over where she had her wand, so when he came out, she was prepared to give a nice little glamour charm instead of a hex. Or at least try. He was fast that it was possible he could dodge it.
Dempster probably could dodge it under normal circumtances. However, there was a "Bloody hell!" as he tried to get out from under the tapestry. It was more long vertically and horizontally than he'd prepared for, and wrestling his way out to the other side took a little longer than he'd anticipated.
And even despite that, he still jumped to the centre of hall, limbs stretched out like a gawky starfish, and he shouted, "BOO!" The expression on his face was not unlike that of a delighted five-year-old's while the kid sing-songs, "Here I am!" He was too pleased with himself to be able to dodge anything.
Dorcas reacted rather quickly to the struggle behind the tapestry. Or hell, even if she had reacted slowly, she still might have had the time to catch him as he got out.
Instead she stood there waiting for him to get out. Anyone watching them would have seen quite an amusing scene especially when he jumped out. Before he could, she already had her wand raised and threw a hair-altering charm at him as he jumped in front of her.
For another moment, Dempster held that pose, mostly from the shock of being hit by a charm. The spell caused his hair to go a bright electric blue and spontaneously grow. His arms dropped to his side and he patted the hair hanging in front of his face. It seemed like he ducked his head to look at the length of it, since the fringe dipped below his waist. "Bloody fucking hell," Dempster groaned from behind the curtain of hair. "I must fucking look like my fucking sister."
For the life of her, Dorcas couldn't stop laughing. She even had to step back and lean against the wall to keep herself from falling over. Because really, Dempster in blue hair was a very uncommon sight. Though any young bloke with long, girlish hair was incredibly hilarious.
It took her a while to straighten up, her stomach aching from the laughter and smiled. "It's just a glamour, don't worry. It can be easily removed. Unless you like it."
Dempster had started laughing as well, his breath drawing hair towards and away from his mouth. However, as soon as she mentioned that it could be removed, he immediately had a straight face and said, "Okay, no, please change it back." He was giving her a slightly pleading look, but it was difficult to tell behind all that hair.
Dorcas had to laugh again at his reaction and she lifted her wand again to get rid of it. "I should do it again when you're sound asleep next time. Then take a picture. It would look pretty." There was a likely chance he might run again so before he could, she attempted to jump and loop an around his neck to muster up his now-normal hair with her other hand.
"That's just bloody fucking meahhhggg," Dempster had begun protesting when he was caught. Since he was a fourteen-year-old boy who enjoyed running about, his hair was messy enough on its own. That didn't stop him from making exaggerated faces and trying to pull her arm away with one hand, and swat in her general direction with the other. He did it more lightly after catching himself on the head a few times.
