It'd taken Adam fifteen minutes to say goodbye to Katie and get out of the house after the sitter arrived, which he'd pretty much been expecting -- she hadn't been upset, but she'd been stubborn. It was okay, though, had actually been kind of adorable. Alex would think the story was adorable when he told her, so he was pretty sure she'd forgive him if he ran slightly late.
He caught sight of her quickly as he walked into the cafe. "Hey," he said as he approached the table. "Sorry if I'm late -- first Katie insisted on approving my outfit, which absolutely explains the painfully colorful socks." He grinned. "She also pouted at me because she couldn't come with and say hi, so that was fun in the ways that aren't."
