Kate didn't mean to laugh, but she couldn't help it. It wasn't much, though. A light chuckle at most.
"Are you okay? Didn't get any down the front of you, did you?" Reaching for a paper towel, Kate handed it over to Peter. "You know that coffee's hot, right?" There he was being his comically-charming self. It wasn't a surprise that she had been completely in love with him. Kate always appreciated someone who could make her laugh but also accept her for who she was.
Resting her cup on the counter, Kate rubbed at her temple and took another sip from her coffee. "I know I've said it before, probably a million times, but I don't...I'm not really made for a relationship. No matter what anyone else thinks. I always ruin them because I don't..." Deserve them? Break people? Get them in trouble?
"It's just that any time I start to get close to someone or I think it's something else? Something happens. They end up getting hurt or decide to marry old girlfriends or hook up with ex-boyfriends or get taken away by a crazy Dome." She took another sip of her coffee and let out a heavy sigh.
"Even when the Dome screws with us, it's never anything normal and it just leaves people feeling, I don't know, confused and reeling and curious and do I go with it or do I not?"
