Hunk had definitely been enjoying himself on this little weekend getaway that he knew was totally organized just to give Lance and his girlfriend the chance to share a room for a couple nights. It didn’t matter, because he and Keith had gotten to go along and just as importantly so had Kim and Shuri. Who Hunk was definitely figuring some things out toward and was definitely coming to some sort of conclusion.
He’d done the speed dating thing and as much as he’d liked the girls, he didn’t like them and the whole time he’d only really been able to think about her. He’d only really wanted to spend time with her. She was his friend, definitely, but he was looking at her like more than that and that was for sure. And given the conversation they’d had back at the fair he figured she already kind of knew where he was headed about her so hopefully it wouldn’t come as a surprise.
Everyone had wound down and decided to turn in for the night when he noticed she was still sitting outside by the pool as he finished tidying up a little and there wasn’t going to be a better chance. There The scenery was perfect and a little romantic, the whole point of the trip was romantic, and Hunk wasn’t stupid; he knew if he didn’t grab his courage with both hands and run with it, he was going to lose it and they’d never talk about anything. It had to happen. So he wiped his hands on his shorts and went out the back door, going to sit beside her.
“Hey, can I talk to you about something kind of...personal?”

Shuri had had every intention of being at the speed dating event to support Kim. She had no other reason to be there, though the idea of it was entertaining. Hearing that Hunk had been there had done...something to her.
Truthfully, Shuri had frozen at the idea only cursing herself after the fact that she had reacted no better than her brother. The project she had decided to start not long prior to the event wouldn’t have been that important. Fascinating, but it could have waited.
Despite her feelings on the matter, Shuri maintained her normal facade for everyone to see. Even when she went poking at Steve and Bucky for some assistance on Molly’s trip. The princess card had been ready, waiting, and could be deceitfully useful when used properly and good-naturedly.
Spending time with everyone was nice but Shuri was just as happy to take the time to enjoy the peace and quiet. The environment reminded her a bit of home as did the warm temperature and evening breeze. It made for the perfect time to go through pictures on her phone while idly swishing one’s feet around in the pool as any normal teenager would do.
Looking up from the phone, Shuri gave Hunk a look before grinning. “Of course, though you do not need to ask permission. I am here when you need someone to talk to at any time.” That's what friends did, right? Even friendly friends.

This was really a lot harder than it should be, Hunk thought as he took a deep breath. “No, yeah. I know. But this is...okay, look. I’m just going to come out and say it.”
Saying it was kind of a story, though.
“Okay so here's the thing. I went to that speed dating thing last month, you know? And Lance didn’t exactly force me to or anything I figured it’d be fun. And it was. It always is and people are usually really nice. I sat down with Kim for a while and...that’s a different story.” On that he’d definitely want to tell Shuri about too once things were figured out, assuming he didn’t make a complete idiot out of himself along the way. Assuming that telling her how he felt didn’t wind up driving her away and making their friendship completely awkward and impossible. That seemed just as likely, probably more likely, than her actually feeling the same way. She was brilliant and beautiful and funny and just great to be around and she made him feel like he couldn’t keep up and he liked that. Very few people in a very big universe made Hunk feel like he needed a second to catch up when they started talking math and science but Shuri definitely did.
“Anyway, so I went. And I spent the whole time kind of just wondering where you were and why you weren’t there and I sort of realized that I was actually kind of glad you weren’t even if it meant that I didn’t get to see you that night. I’d really rather not see you for a night than to watch you talking to other guys and maybe starting to like one of them. Like that. Not like friends.” He really hoped she’d stop him if she knew what he was saying and was running right down the wrong path. “Because, uh, I kind of like you. Not like friends. I mean like friends too but like more than just a friend.”

It was cute. Adorable, really. Without trying, boys always made things overly complicated. They put too many words where actions were needed. Too many people often insisted that girls were like that, but Shuri was not like other girls. Far from it.
She let him get his words out as jumbled and a mess as they were. The feelings were, though. That was the important thing. Had her brother been this way with Nakia? No wonder she had waited for him to straighten himself out.
Shuri shook her head, a wide smile on her face, before leaning in towards Hunk. With her hand on his cheek, her shoulder pressing against his, she moved in to kiss him. Unafraid and certainly not shy, she hoped it would reassure him of everything.
“Why is that they say that girls are the ones that talk too much when it comes to feelings?” she teased a few moments after breaking away from the kiss. “I suspect that this is much easier.”

She was smiling. That was a good sign. She kissed him. That was a good sign. But it didn’t really make things any clearer for him. Not the way she probably thought it did. If anything, Hunk thought it complicated things even further. It wasn’t really an answer and it didn’t give him the first idea of what to do with any of this.
He was pretty sure that kissing her without knowing how she felt could easily have been called assault though.
“Easier, sure. Maybe. But it doesn’t really...I don’t know what it’s supposed to mean?” Hunk needed words. Actions were great and all and he really hoped she didn’t get him wrong because he was totally into being kissed and kissing her some more. But he needed more than that. He needed to know how she felt too.

It was a fair statement and a fair question. Shuri understood his hesitation. "Hunk," she began and shook her head. Shuri sighed because she, also, couldn't find the exact words. There were topics that Shuri was tremendously gifted at covering. Then there were ones that she was not. Shuri could be emotionally-charged at the best and worst of times. Then there were just sharing emotions and feelings.
Sometimes, for a teenager, it was difficult.
"You are a very good person, Hunk. A true and honest individual who I have very much enjoyed getting to know." There was another pause, Shuri clearly putting words and fragments together in her mind. "I think we are good together. Those are the important points, yes?"
It was more than that, of course. He was easy to talk to, allowed her to open up and be herself, and wasn't expecting anything from her. Shuri may have lived her entire life behind the protective barriers of Wakanda, but she was far from the typical naive princess.
