Who: Belle and The Doctor What: Talking Where: The Riverside When: Afternoon Warnings: None Status: started in gdocs, continued in comments
Belle sat by the river today, she had a picnic meal and her homework. She had college texts to one side and high school on the other. She was so engrossed in the work she didn't hear anyone around.
Which was not a good thing but here, thankfully, she was safe. No one was going to do anything to her.
She reached for her sandwich when she noticed someone else near the river. She smiled at them, "lovely afternoon is it not?"
The Doctor himself was easily distracted when he was involved in one of his projects, and right now he was trying to make a new machine that would go ‘ping’. It wasn’t as simple without the TARDIS and all the useful things he’d accumulated over the years. But the kettle had been a big help. And the oven, too.
He was currently testing it out on the fish, and had what essentially looked like an overly complicated fishing rod cast into the water. So far it was only pinging when a fish actually touched it, but that only needed a few more minor adjustments. And then he’d be able to start applying the sensor to other, more interesting applications.
It was all very exciting.
He hadn’t even noticed anyone else was beside the river until they spoke. He looked up from his experiment with a smile. “Oh, hello! Yes. It is, isn’t it? Very lovely. All sunny and...things.”
Belle smiled up at him, “It is lovely!” she agreed again before cocking her head in his direction. She wasn’t sure what he was doing and her natural curiosity won out and she had to investigate. She neatly marked her place in the books and got to her feet.
“What are you doing sir?” she inquired politely as she stopped nearby and looked at his contraption. It looks vaguely like a fishing rod, but even then she wasn’t too sure. She hadn’t seen one before, not like that.
She smiled up at him, all wide eyed curiosity. d.
“Me?” He inquired, as if she could be asking anyone else. “Oh, just checking for pings.” Which to him was explanation enough, but he didn’t actually stop to consider if the things he said were sufficient explanation for anyone else.
“What about you? Is that for school?” She looked like she must be a student, and a studious one at that. And what a fun place to choose to be doing her reading. And now he’d distracted her. Not that he honestly minded. He’d never had much of a problem being the centre of attention.
She blinked, "What… do you mean by that?" She asked curiously, having zero clue what he could have possibly meant by that. She smiled though because he was friendly enough.
"It is for school, yes. I'm taking both high school classes and college ones." Okay one college one because she'd gotten bored too easily. She was curious as it was a miracle she didn't get distracted more often.
