Yamato wasn't busy on a Thursday evening. Derek was glad he was ushered into the dining room to a table quickly. The chef was setting up for the meal as Derek took his seat. He heard the door open behind him and looked back to see another single diner enter.
At least he thought she was a solo diner from what he could observe.
He gestured to the seat at his side as the waitress escorted the woman into the dining room. The table Derek was at had the only chef ready to cook so it made sense they'd be seated together in spite of arriving alone. There was always the option to eat at the bar, but who wanted to miss out on the fun of live hibachi?
"Special occasion or just needing a little mid-week pick-me-up? I'm here for the mood boost I get from live cooking and good hibachi. Derek Morgan," he offered his hand for a shake, "I think I saw you at Speed Dating last month. Am I right?"
Speed Dating had been an experience and a half for Derek. He was glad he'd decided to do it even if he hadn't made an amazing love connection from the night. Sometimes a guy could do better with only making a new friend and Derek felt he'd made a few connections which could lead to real friendship. He hoped to catch up with Penelope to see how her night had fared.
His new dining partner hadn't been paired with him during the event, but her look was memorable. Derek hoped she'd enjoyed the night since he'd be making an unusual situation even more awkward if he'd just brought up something she'd hated. For all he knew? She didn't want conversation at all. She might have just wanted to watch the chef work and then enjoy her fresh food.
"Feel free to ignore me if you're not in the mood to talk. I promise: I understand. We've all had those days."
