Which ought to mean that he could hold a passable conversation in French, thanks to standard education. But that wouldn't be true for him at all. His Arabic was a lot stronger, and his Urdu was pretty functional if he needed it, but his French didn't go a lot further than introducing himself or reading the ingredients on a cereal box.
