"It was... rough," he said honestly. "But it's gotten a lot better to deal with. I have family here, and I have friends -- and I have my daughter. Katie's one of the best things to ever happen to me. She's a lot more like me than she is her mother, but sometimes she reminds me of her mother anyway. It's actually at the point where that's kind of nice and not really painful."
But he knew that this could easily get really depressing -- and conversation-monopolizing -- if they kept talking about it, so he took it and ran in a different direction. "But enough about that. Speaking of being here, what do you do in town? I run the refugee medical clinic."
