“It can’t hurt anything to ask her what she wants, see if she’s got any inclination to move.” He wasn’t sure that she would, Molly held onto her family tightly, but Steve wouldn’t be surprised if she did. He didn’t think he’d be happy about it, but having raised the girl for so many years, he knew he could accept it with enough time. They couldn’t hold onto her forever, no matter how much they wanted to.
Her birthday was a lot closer than he’d realized, though, and he wasn’t sure how it had snuck up so close without them hearing all about it. It might be a sign of growth, but more likely was just her trying not to put more on them.
“She’d probably like something like last year.” Something more geared toward her celebrating with her friends than the family. Steve wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t want her parents around for it at all, would rather have a quiet dinner with them another day.
