"But nothing's ever that easy," she replied. She got it. Cassie struggled a lot with her anger and feeling like the smallest stumble would make the people she loved abandon her. She'd gotten better over time, slowly but surely, and part of that was because her parents never gave up on her no matter what happened. They weeded quietly for a little while longer until a good section was cleaned up. "How're they doing?" she asked of the plants. Cassie hoped it was making them feel better and, in turn, make him feel a little more centered too. If that was what he needed to feel better? She'd stay out all night helping him do the work because that was what friends did for one another. And maybe afterwards, she'd just stay over since it was already late enough. If he was into it.
