Keith was on the run from his teammates. That wasn't something that was supposed to happen but they weren't themselves and it was either run away or run the risk of someone getting hurt. And since he was reluctant to go all out against them he was the one that was probably going to get hurt.
He didn't understand it. They knew the right things, and they moved the right ways but it wasn't them. Neither of them showed any emotions aside from the few they were trying to fake to fool him but they were so obviously acted out they probably would have been better off pretending. Lance without emotions or faked emotions was just a huge beacon of being wrong.
When he'd woken up they'd been standing over his bed and in his confusion he'd almost let them get him restrained before he'd managed to break away. When he couldn't get any answers and it was obvious if he stayed he was going to have to be willing to hurt them Keith had grabbed his phone and his blade and since there wasn't any other choice he could see threw the blade to break the window and followed it out. Luckily he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt to bed. Unluckily he was barefoot and he'd just rolled through the glass when he hit the ground and picked the blade back up but the only reason he stopped after he got about a block away was to duck into an alcove and make sure he wasn't leaving bloody footprints to follow him by.
There wasn't really any cuts on his feet, he just had been running on pavement so that was good, but he had some scratches on his arms and face. Ignoring those Keith kept moving while he tried to decide what to do. Who could he tell about this? Nodding to himself when he decided he went in the direction of where Kim lived. She was a fighter and they should probably check on her, Molly and Shuri if Lance and Hunk were...whatever they were.
About a half a block away he stopped where he was hidden from people going by and called her phone. He wanted to hear if she sounded like she had emotions or not first.
Kim was very much aware that something weird as hell was going on, but without her usual resources, investigating wasn't as easy as she remembered it being. Maybe she'd focused on maintaining the wrong sort of skills for the past few months because at the moment, all she could tell was that Molly and some of her other friends were acting weird, to the point where she really questioned whether or not they really were who they looked like. It was like they'd gotten personality implants or something, like how all those people acted so square and lame until they discovered what living was and it turned them from being in black and white to color. Except it wasn't quite that obvious and it left her feeling more than a little off kilter.
She'd finally decided enough was enough, she was going to just sneak into Molly's room and see if she couldn't find some clues. Kim figured Molly wouldn't get too mad at her if she caught her, and maybe then she'd get some other answers, too. So she'd made her way over to the Rogers-Barnes household and went around to the side where Molly's room was. Just as she was about to start climbing, her phone buzzed in the pattern that indicated a phone call. Kim let out a noise of frustration as she pulled her phone out of her pocket.
"Hey, Keith, can I call you back? I'm kind of in the middle of something..." Kim said in a rush as soon as the call connected.
Well she at least sounded impatient, that was an emotion and it was something of a good sign. But Keith wasn't sure what she was in a rush for. It could still end up bad if he trusted her. Keith almost hung up because it really was smarter to do this on his own rather than pick out who he could trust. His finger hovered over the button before he growled under his breath and told himself to just do it. A team was better than being alone.
"Kim, Lance and Hunk just tried to....I don't know what exactly. There's something wrong going on, really wrong. Are you okay?" He absently wiped a trickle of blood away from where it was getting close to his eye because it tickled then frowned seeing it on his fingers and felt the rest of his face to see what else was bleeding, luckily most of it had stopped already.
That got her to pause. "Something wrong is definitely going on," she agreed as she moved away from the house. If he was in trouble then that was her priority over investigating Molly's behavior. "I was just about to sneak into Molly's room to see if I could figure out what the hell is going on, but where are you? Are you alright?" Kim definitely didn't want him to be facing Hunk and Lance alone, because although she was sure he could take them, it was never good to have those odds. She headed out towards the street and got on her bicycle, her helmet still hanging on the handle. She had more important things to deal with right now.
"Are they following you? I wonder if whatever got into Molly spread to Lance and then it got into Hunk..." Kim was mostly just guessing, but if that was how it worked then they definitely needed to get some help. Once she caught up with Keith, she would have to remember to warn Shuri, Kara, Steve and Veronica, and let them tell everyone else. Molly's dads were going to be so unhappy about it all.
"Just tell me where to meet you. I'm on my bike. I can get there quick."
"I'm just a little scratched up, I had to go out a window." There was a little bit of a growl to his voice for having to end up doing something so last second to get away. And maybe a little bit because his team and family had something wrong with them and he'd had to run because they wouldn't listen to him. It was like they just didn't care. "I wouldn't sneak in there right now I think we should make a plan." He didn't want to face them even though he knew he could definitely take them because he didn't want to hurt them. There just wasn't any winning here.
"They were following but they didn't want to go out the window so I had a lead on them and I lost them for now." Keith glanced out of his hiding spot to make sure he was telling the truth and there was no sign of them right now. "There's a fire escape on the side of the Starbucks, meet me on the roof there. I kind of want to be off the street for a bit." He hoped it would give him a good view of anything coming if he was up there and most people didn't think to look up when they were looking for things.
Kim altered course slightly so that she'd go back to her place so that she could grab a pair of socks and shoes for him. If they were going to be hiding out, they were going to need some supplies and she was going to grab some first aid supplies too just in case. "Definitely not sneaking, promise. Give me...twenty minutes and I'll be there, okay?" He'd probably be able to tell she was exerting herself, though whether he'd be able to identify that she was riding her bike, she didn't know.
"I'll text you when I'm on my way up so you know it's safe." She had a feeling he'd appreciate that. Once he confirmed, she hung up and got back to the house. Kim quickly packed her backpack with the biggest pair of shoes they had at the house, some protein bars, and a first aid kit, before she got back on her bike. She rode hard to get to Starbucks in time and parked her bike in the alley. Then, she texted him that she was on her way up and started to climb.
"Hey," she greeted as she got over the edge. "Hanging in there?"
ven though she'd texted and he was pretty sure it was her Keith was waiting with the blade in his hand. it was activated so it was full length and he stood in an easy 'ready' position in case it was someone using her phone to try to fool him. Once he was sure it was her and she wasn't that weird blank emotional slate that his teammates had been he let out the breath he'd been holding and the blade flashed and went back to its regular size.
"Hanging in so far." He was just glad he slept in what he did so he hadn't been half dressed on top of having no shoes. Or running through town with moisturizer all over his face like Lance would have had to do. "It's been a weird start to the day though. What about you?"
Kim wasn't surprised to see him armed and ready, but she did roll her eyes at him. "Told you I was fine," she teased, though she did wait to get closer to him until he lowered his blade. She definitely wanted to train against him with that, but she was definitely going to save that for later. "It's been very weird, but honestly? I don't hate it all that much. This is exactly the sort of thing I'd get up to at home, although usually I'd have Wade there to do a lot of the leg work and to provide cool new gear, plus Ron and Rufus to get through the mission. I'm not so sure there's a villain with an off switch hiding around somewhere though. My bad guys are like that more often than not."
She figured he'd understand that to some extent. From what she knew, he definitely got into fights where peoples' lives were at stake.
Kim slipped her backpack off her shoulders and opened the top so that she could pull out the first aid kit. "Alright, safety first. Then you can see if these sneakers fit and I grabbed snacks and a deck of cards." She took each item out so he could see the haul she'd brought. "Figure we can compare notes, lay low, and strategize a bit before trying to save our friends."
He sort of understood because at home there was a lot less sitting around and working a job that didn't really mean anything to Keith and he was used to constant crisis after crisis but at the same time these were his teammates and they had just tried to restrain him and...well he still had no idea what they were trying to do but it wasn't good. That was the sort of thing that hit home really hard on Keith. First Shiro was missing and now Lance and Hunk were acting like his enemy. But all he did was frown because how could Kim know that? He and Lance acted like they hated each other most of the time even if they'd take a bullet for each other when it came down to it.
"Thanks." He left it at that and took the med kit to grab one of the little alcohol wipes to just make sure his cuts weren't any worse than he thought they were and put the shoes beside him to try on afterward. "Strategy is good. We can't hurt them but they don't seem to feel that way about us. It makes things harder."
