Wash was acting weird today. Carolina had missed him for part of the day but when she got home from work he hadn't been right there working on any of his projects and waiting on them. That was a little unusual but she was earlier than usual so maybe he just hadn't expected them.
When she found him he was just sitting in the living room not doing anything. "What are you doing?" She hadn't meant for it to sound accusational but she fought wincing when she realized it probably could be taken that way.
The clone thought of himself as Wash, he had all of the Freelancer's memories even if they were slightly broken but he didn't have any emotions to go with them so he didn't take offense at what she said, just shrugged. "I was trying to nap. But I couldn't."
"Oh." He'd insisted on sleeping alone in his own room the night before but Carolina hadn't heard anything so she had thought maybe he'd gotten a few hours of sleep. Maybe he'd just stayed up all night instead. It wouldn't be the first time. "Well I'll heat up something for all of us to eat and then maybe we can all go lay down and watch a movie together. That usually helps."
She waited for him to respond but apparently all she was getting was a nod so Carolina left him in the living room to go heat up some of the food in the fridge for the three of them and wait for York who should be home soon.
York wasn't working quite as many hours these days now that Wash was taking a few days a week working at Tucker's place of employment, but this week it seemed like something was off with Zee so he was trying to cover as much as he could without hovering too much over her. She tended to get snippy when he did. Tonight, he headed home before she could corner him to get out of there and hoped he'd get home with enough time to help pick what leftovers to eat for dinner. They didn't have anymore food from that Bucky guy, but Chinese leftovers were just as good.
He let himself into the house and headed for the living room, intending to walk past it and into the kitchen. However, when he saw Wash just sitting there, York could admit that he was concerned. "Hey man, you doing alright?" he greeted, trying to make it seem more on the casual side than real worry.
"Hey C," he called, hearing her familiar movements in the kitchen. Delta, grab some time in the containment units, alright? I have a feeling Wash is going to need us tonight.
I need to confer with Church on something anyway, Delta replied as he hopped to the containment unit.
The clone looked up and schooled its face into a hint of a smile but it didn't last long since it wasn't good at it. "Hey, I'm fine. You're home early I guess the fridge full of food is a good way to make sure people are here more often." It was such a pain to have paranoid people connected to the host bodies that were taken. They made all of this a lot more difficult.
They should all be infected tonight then their skills would be an asset instead of a challenge.
Carolina hadn't gotten very far on picking out and heating up the food. She had pulled out several of the containers and put them on the counter but after that she'd leaned against the counter looking off toward the living room with a thoughtful frown on her face. Wash was just acting different and she was trying to figure out why. He probably didn't sleep but he just seemed kind of remote.
When she heard York open the door she pushed herself off the counter to start looking though the food again. She was glad he was home. "Hey York, want to help me pick out what to heat up?" He'd stopped to talk to Wash, maybe he'd have a better impression of what was going on, he tended to pick up on those kind of things.
Something was off with Wash, more so than usual. It was concerning enough that York had to school his features after the briefest of moments. "Something like that," he agreed. "Zee was looking like she was going to kick me out and you guys are always my first choice anyhow."
Carolina called him into the kitchen so he gave Wash a pat on the shoulder. "Pick a movie to watch but don't get started without us," he said before he headed into the other room. His concern was a lot more apparent for her than it had been for Wash as he moved closer to her.
"What's going on with him?" York asked in as quiet a whisper as he could manage. The last thing he wanted was to spook Wash, who hated to hear them talking about him on a good day. Today didn't seem like a good day at all.
"I have no idea." Carolina whispered back with a frown. She was used to just about every mood and issue that came out of Wash's injuries by now but this was something that had never come up. "He said he was trying to nap but he was just sitting there doing nothing when I got home." She didn't like it. She really didn't like it. Wash wasn't one of those people that got quiet when there was a problem. He tended to get that shrieky yell when he was irritated or angry and he just turned snarky as hell when he was angsty or depressed. This was more like...well actually she was pretty sure she didn't know anyone that went all quiet and distant as a reaction. They were all a bunch of show offs even when it came to arguing.
"I don't know of anything happening and he doesn't look like he got hurt or anything." She looked over her shoulder toward where they'd left Wash without thinking about it and she was startled to see he was standing in the doorway to the kitchen. Damn he'd been quiet!
"Is everything okay?" The Wash clone didn't want to give them too much time to talk together. They were probably going to be suspicious enough as it was so he wanted to keep them distracted. He leaned against the wall on the inside of the doorway once they were looking at him because Wash didn't like to have his back exposed, he didn't stand in doorways for too long. "I was just thinking we could watch the third Lord of the Rings again, I still haven't seen the ending since I fell asleep last time."
