Unfortunately for Lucas, and for Lena having to deflect, Dean wasn't going to be letting him in any time soon. It wasn't a side of himself he wanted to share with a kid looking up to him, and the kid had already seen too much. He was going to have to keep holding him at arm's length until he got his head on straight and could at least fake being worth the attention.
He felt guilty that Lena was having to be in the middle of it all but at least for now, he was what it had to be.
"It's cool," he assured quickly after her apology. He didn't need babysitting, didn't need more people worrying over him more than they already did. "Seriously. I'm good so worry about your friend." He wasn't good. He was a long way from good, but if he could ease her worries even a little bit by faking it where she could see, then he would without hesitation. He could lean on a bottle and on Sara if he really needed a shoulder, which he refused to admit he might, to get him through until he really was alright again.
