It was hard to not just bolt out the door when she said she was down the hall. That their daughter was asleep something like six doors down. Marcos didn't have it in him to hold back so he just walked out of his apartment without his shoes on, without grabbing his wallet or keys or anything. He just shut the door behind him, walked the handful of steps to the door that held the apartment number she'd given him. He put his hand on the doorknob and just stopped there for a minute.
The love of his life was on the other side of the door. His daughter, too. All he had to do was open it and it felt like he couldn't breathe. They were right there. He was so angry at her for leaving, for starting down a path he couldn't follow and taking their daughter with her. Marcos had been consumed by the search, to find them and to bring Lorna home. This place wasn't home. It wasn't even normal in any sense of the word, and yet here, he could actually see his daughter.
That thought was what had him open the door and then he had no choice but to step through it. Her apartment was a similar layout to his so he was able to at least find the main room without any problems. Lorna was right there and he didn't know if he wanted to yell at her or pull her into a hug and never let her go. But this, like most things, was up to her. She had to dictate how this was going to go because she could tell him to get lost and never see their daughter again.
