Gibbs was generally not a heavy sleeper, nor did he sleep for very long, but sometimes he did because he needed it. He'd grown accustomed to the house in Madison Valley, to the sounds of Emily living in said house. He'd even gotten used to having someone to share a bed with after his year or so with Karen, so the fact that he was comfortably wrapped around a smaller figure whom his senses deemed as safe wasn't a cause for alarm or a hasty wake up. In the back of his mind, he knew it wasn't Karen just from the feel of her, but it also wasn't unfamiliar either. He'd done this before, slept with her in his arms, even if it had only ever been for a few hours in a whole other world.
Her hair tickled at his nose. That could only be ignored for so long before he reached up to just smooth it away from his nose before he settled his arm around her once more. Half asleep was definitely a good way to describe him. Human contact like this, he'd missed it. Gibbs had been spiraling lately, almost from the moment they'd taken that damn case and found Ziva's office. He'd burned a damn rule and it felt a lot like he'd started a rockslide that was only just beginning to gain steam. It was going to run him over soon, but this? This was calming. Soothing. He didn't want it to stop.
