Adam was grateful for the fact that he'd decided to just be casual and let people drop by whenever they felt like it. People weren't sticking around too long, but it was still long enough for Katie to glom onto them and insist they play some random game with her and get into some utterly nonsensical conversation or other. Adam wasn't entirely sure how much fun she was having, but she was trying. And he was trying.
A couple of his friends had stopped by that morning before work, Carson had just left, Johanna was currently in the kitchen doing a snack assessment to see if they needed anything before she left. It was quiet now, nobody else there, but he knew it likely wouldn't stay that way for long. The way people fussed over him was a little crazy and a lot overwhelming, but it also went to show just how long he'd been there and just how many people cared. Or something like that. He was really just still stuck back on how overwhelming it was. He was probably going to be stuck on that for a while.
He was grateful that people cared as much as they did, he would never try saying that he wasn't. It was just a very weird situation where as much as he was glad they cared and he was glad they were supportive, he wished they didn't have to be right now. He was perfectly fine with everyone rallying around Katie, though. His daughter was the one who mattered most. Would always matter most.
The doorbell rang and Katie ran for the door, Adam following close behind. He reached out to answer the door before she could do it.
