Who: Anakin Skywalker and Leia Organa.
Where: The park.
What: Leia encounters R2D2.
When: Sunday, June 2.
Warnings: Likely low.
Status: Closed.

Anakin had the day off from work, and he decided it was the perfect day to take R2D2 out of the apartment. He felt bad for the droid, being cooped up in the apartment for long periods of time. Sometimes Anakin took him to work with him, but sometimes he left the droid at home. But today he decided Artoo needed some time away from home and work.

Of course, he might be wanting some time away from home and work himself. He could very well be using the droid for his own agenda. But Artoo didn't seem to mind, he never seemed to mind. Anakin was appreciative of this. He was grateful for the droid being in Madison Valley, especially since he hadn't arrived in town with Anakin.

He glanced down at Artoo when he heard an excited series of beeps, a sound that was usually reserved for someone Artoo was pleased to see. He looked in the direction the droid happened to be looking, and smiled slightly. "Leia."

Against her better judgment, she was actually pleased to see her father. Maybe it was stupid, but she couldn't help hoping that things would be better here. He actually seemed to be happy. Her mother was there and expecting another baby and he had a job he seemed content at. It wasn't home, but maybe that was for the best.

All they needed was Luke - and Han - and maybe things would be alright.

She went to say hello to her father, but then she realized where the sounds she'd heard were coming from. Her entire face lit up as she rushed over, dropping to her knees in front of the little droid. "Artoo!" she exclaimed happily. While she'd known he was here, it was still really good to see him again.

She glanced up a moment later with a little sheepish smile. "Hello, Father."

Anakin was pleased to see Leia, but he knew that it likely wasn't the same for his daughter. He understood why she was a bit wary of his presence here in town, especially knowing who he was to become in their world. And what he would do to her (and Alderaan) as Darth Vader.

But he was not that man here, and he had no intention of becoming that man. Though he was sure that he hadn't really meant to become that man back home, either. He just wanted to protect Padme. Was that really such a bad thing? He would do anything for his wife.

He smiled a bit at Leia's reaction to the droid, "He's pleased to see you. He knew you the last time you were here, and he missed you." Artoo appeared to have missed her, at least.

He knew he had, at least.

"Hello, Leia."

It was a bit disappointing knowing that this wasn't her Artoo. The one who had been through so much with her. The one who had been with her during one of the scariest moments of her life. But at least he knew her.

It felt a bit like it did with most everyone else here. They didn't know her. They knew another Leia. One from her future or, more strange, a her who had come here and returned home. And she had no memories of it.

Still, she was happy to see the droid just the same. And grateful he was happy to see her. "I missed you, my friend," she said softly, resting a hand against his dome. "Did he come with you?" she asked, looking up.

Anakin understood that Leia might be a little disappointed that it wasn't the Artoo she knew. The one from her world. But in order for him to be the one that Anakin knew... R2D2 couldn't be the droid that knew both Anakin and Leia. He would have to know Darth Vader and Leia. Which wasn't something that Anakin wanted.

"No," he said, after a moment. "He arrived here after I did. I woke up one morning and he was in my apartment. It was around the time Padme arrived, though I am fairly certain she arrived first."

He had been pleased that Artoo had arrived. Now all he wanted was C3P0.

"My podracer I built when I was a child is here, too."

Artoo did that adorable thing he did where he rocked back and forth on his "feet" happily. She grinned, rubbing his dome one more time before pulling herself to her feet to chat more with her father.

"You came here first, then. Were you terribly lonely?" She was making friends of her own, and it was nice to have the time to get to know her parents. But she missed Han desperately, more than either of them would admit out loud to each other, she knew. And of course, Luke. They were only just starting to figure this sibling thing out.

His last sentence, though, surprised you. "You built your own podracer? As a little boy?" She knew he was powerful, but she didn't realize he was a bit of a prodigy, too.

"I did arrive first. Before anyone else from our world, even the ones I didn't know yet. It was... lonely is a good word for it. It took a bit of time to adjust to being here. But Artoo arrived, and so did Padme. That made it infinitely better." He had been grateful for Padme's arrival. And Artoo's arrival, as well as everyone else's. "I did have a ward for a short time, but she got sent home."

He smiled a bit at the surprise from Leia. "I built it on Tatooine, when I was still a slave. I was... nine, I believe. There was a podrace that helped Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon repair their ship and leave Tatooine. With me." He had been grateful that the two Jedi took him with them, though he had desperately missed his mother.

"Shmi -- my mother -- had to stay on Tatooine, they could only free one of us from slavery."

She could at least somewhat understand where he was coming from. Yes, she had people who knew her. Who cared about her. But no one she, personally, knew. It was difficult. But Padme had arrived for him. Maybe, just maybe, the dome would give Leia the same favor. "Wait, you were taking care of a child?" Maybe she shouldn't have been so surprised, given he was the father of twins and an expectant father yet again. It still felt odd, simply because she still hadn't separated him from an evil overlord.

It was a dark story. A sad one. One she'd never gotten to hear, and her face fell in a sad expression. This as the sort of story most children would hear from their parents when they were young. But she never had. "I didn't know. Luke mentioned he grew up on Tatooine with his uncle and aunt, but he never mentioned our grandmother." Maybe they hadn't talked about her much? It did seem the Skywalker way.

"I didn't get to know Obi-Wan. Luke did. For a bit. He was good to him. But then, I'm sure you know all that." Another downfall of not being the first version of herself to meet people. She was afraid she was going to repeat herself all the time.

He had to laugh softly at her question, "I was, yes. She was... twelve, if I remember correctly. Her name was Mathilda, and she resembled Padme a great deal." It had been a bit unsettling, how much the pre-teen had resembled his wife. But he had adjusted to that, had adjusted to being a guardian of a young girl. But then she had been sent home.

"My mother died before he was born. Before the both of you were born. But she had married before she had died. Married a man who had a son, named Owen. He was my stepbrother. He is the one who raised Luke, along with his wife." He had met Owen and Beru briefly, and was glad that the two had raised Luke.

He nodded, "I am glad that Obi-Wan had the chance to meet Luke, though I am sorry you never had the chance to meet him. He was a good friend. He was like a brother to me."

"So she died a slave, then?" Slavery was something Leia had been working to end on all planets when she'd been recruited to join the rebellion. It was troubling knowing she'd never get to finish that work now.

She thought maybe it was best to not mention who it had been who killed Obi-Wan. Maybe Anakin already knew. Maybe the other her had told him, or someone else from their world who flitted in and out. But he wasn't going to hear it from her. Because Luke was a brother to her and the thought of harming him in any way made her physically ill.

"Luke grieved for him quite a bit once he passed. It was hard on him. But then, he lost a lot in a short amount of time." Something she could entirely relate to. That likely had just as much to do with their quick bond as their actual sibling relationship.

Anakin shook his head slightly. "My mother was freed before she got married to Owen's father. So she was free before she died." He was grateful for that, at least. While he had not reacted well to the fact that Shmi Skywalker had died, he was at least glad that she wasn't a slave when she died.

He nodded in response to Leia's words, "I understand that he lost quite a bit at a young age. He was here for a while, though considerably older than you are now. Which was strange, having a son here who was older than I am."

Though he was glad he had gotten the chance to know him. And he was glad that Leia was here as well. He liked the chances that Madison Valley offered.
