All of this stuff with Wash being injured and the way he and Carolina were acting was pretty much making Church crazy. He understood. It was awful and the universe needed to stop kicking the remaining two Freelancers in the teeth. But it wasn't going to do that unless they actually retired and stayed away from things and he didn't think that was ever going to happen.
And what was worse was getting into Wash's head when he first got back and seeing everything in there. It had hurt to look at, everything was sharp edges and holes in Wash's mind...and this wasn't the first time.
It had been a lot to process which kept him in Carolina's head and out of everyone else's. He hadn't even played around much on the internet. Earlier Wash had gotten a bat of reality from Tucker of all people (really he was good at that when the occasion called for it) and he and Carolina had made up so he was laying low.
And he kind of wanted to talk to Charlie. More face to face than in her head and he didn't think Tucker would volunteer for him to have a joy ride.
Wow, wrong phrasing there.
He wasn't even sure this would work but he was going to try it anyway. He and Tex had done it to each other so it might work with Charlie. He hopped from Carolina to the networks for the processing power and quickly built something like his artificial environment back in Freelancer. Then he pulled Charlie in hoping she wasn't about to get really pissed off at him.
"Hi Charlie."
