French was a language John Wick had learned many years before he'd met his Helen. It was not his native tongue, but, then again, neither was English. The cadence of the words was more familiar to him than the words themselves; John was afraid he had stumbled upon someone newly acquired by the dome. The girl certainly didn't look as if she were from any modern era. That in combination with her language and her mount's reaction to an automobile made him determined to do what he could to help her.
Using the modern French he was familiar with, John spoke slowly to her, "Are you hurt? I can help you if you are injured."
Healing wasn't something John had trained in, but he knew where the clinic was as well as the hospital. He could tend to most wounds better than average due to the nature of his own work. It was only too common for him to be injured in the field and he could not go to any hospital or clinic he chose to get his wounds looked after. Madison Valley was better than his New York City in that sense. No one was turned away when they needed help at a refugee center. They were cared for free of any and all prejudices though the native locations might not be as welcoming depending on what sort of refugee was in question.
"I am John Wick. I have lived here some months now. Have you only just arrived in Madison Valley?"
Latin-based languages tended to sound the same throughout history. John hoped he was right on that front and not simply believing in a Hollywood-based fiction. He was careful to keep his hands up with the palms exposed to show the universal sign of peaceful intentions. The horse was spooked, but appeared to be well-behaved. John stopped when he was within arm's reach of the girl, making sure not to crowd her equine companion. He hoped the Welcoming Committee showed soon if she was new. John had no idea what else he could do to help her other than what he'd already offered. He wasn't even certain she understood him. He was working on hope and a goodwill.
Violet Parr had welcomed him on his arrival with kindness and compassion; John Wick hoped he could prove a decent replacement as he was the first one to encounter the girl after she was nearly run down by a passing car.
