"You think this place can handle the full effect of Penelope Garcia?"
Derek couldn't stop smiling at her as he took in her idea of a suitable dress for Civil War Era New Orleans. She was a light in the darkness for him each and every day he was able to work with her at the BAU. They had a connection he couldn't explain well. People tended to think of him as a certain kind of man when it came to women. Garcia was the exception to all his rules. She was not some woman to him. She was his Baby Girl. There had never been a woman in his life he could compare to the role Garcia filled for him.
Derek hadn't known he was missing something until he'd met Penelope Garcia and she filled a PG-shaped hole in his life.
Holding his arms out, he offered her a chance to look at his choice of attire, "How do you like the duds? I dropped by the Salvation Army. I figured old and worn would work better than my suit or anything from the Wal-Mart."
A worn flannel button-down went with a pair of ragged trousers and Derek had chosen to keep his own shoes. They were black leather and not shiny enough to attract much attention. He figured he would pass for a man walking the streets of 1860s New Orleans as long as no one got too close to his business. From what he understood of the era, people were skittish about approaching strangers anyway so he thought he could get by without cause for concern. The fact he was embracing the idea of walking through an invisible door in reality which led to the Civil War time and a different place? That was more alarming than whether or not his clothes would pass for antiques.
"I think we will look pretty as a picture. I hope so since I do want to enjoy this trip. If we're experiencing a mass hallucination? I figure we might as well go with it. There's no way it can be worse than some of the cases we've worked and it can't beat my last vacation for awful experiences. I mean, I had to try to free Elle from a murder wrap in Jamaica. We surely won't have that kind of trouble."
