Who: Corso Riggs and Paige Winterbourne
When: Saturday afternoon/evening
Where: NOLA Portal
What: A date reminiscent of a married life left behind but never forgotten.
Warnings: TBD, but probably low. Maybe some smoosh.
Status: Closed/In-progress

Corso prided himself in being a gentleman. He also took care not to go against Paige's wishes. She had been fairly persistent in taking him on this outing. While Corso had done his best to sneak his payment through, he knew when to admit defeat. His mother had taught him better than to argue with a lady.

Unsure if he would stand out too much, Corso worse the clothing from the west. It wasn't as stylish as others they had passed on their way to the cafe, but it was better than his regular clothing.

There was already a mess of sugar in front of him with a light dusting on his shirt. Corso was doing his best to keep things tidy, but it wasn't easy. The pastry was delicious and nothing like he'd ever had before. It wasn't even comparable to the donuts he'd had in Madison. The coffee was surprisingly good as well. Rich and dark, he didn't add a touch of sugar or cream to it.

"I heard that the messier something is, the better is." A puff of sugar followed and Corso couldn't help but laugh. "I guess they're right."

What was really important to Paige was that they both be on the same page, for as long as it took for them to figure out what they were doing, and if it was leading anywhere serious. It just didn't feel right to always let him be the one taking her out, no matter how old-fashioned he could be for someone from the future. Or another galaxy. Or whatever. A world that ought to be more progressive than it sometimes seemed. She was independent, sometimes ferociously so, and if they were going to work out he was going to have to just like the even footing thing.

She didn't put all that much thought into it, though, much happier to actually be going out and fully recognizing that going back in time was kind of becoming their sort of thing. This time it was very reminiscent of the world they'd been married in, and the simple, tidy dress she'd wound up with after all that was finding new life once again sitting across the table from him. And just like the last time she'd worn it, Paige was completely enamoured.

"Whoever says that is definitely onto something," she agreed, the battle to keep her dress tidy just as hard and she'd more or less given up after a handful. "Though I've got to say I can't help wondering if they were just thinking about sloppy joes or something like that."

"Never had this kind of stuff back on Ord Mantell. Hell, didn't have this kind of food in the galaxy." It was an odd collection of strange liquids that you made do with. If you had the credits, you were able to afford things with better quality. Being in the military, you had the rations that enabled you to continue on the field and then some.

Even if it hadn't been made from the best of the best, Corso wouldn't ever speak or think ill of his mother's cooking, though. She could do no wrong in his eyes.

"Sloppy joes? There are some strange names for food here, too." Corso was learning that the food with specific names had usually been created by a person with that name. Sloppy joes, though? That wasn't entirely the nicest of names. Unless he was just proud of how messy he was.

"Hey. You got a little..." Reaching over, Corso rubbed his finger against her cheek and only smeared the sugar more. "Oops."

There was no point in Paige trying to explain where sloppy joes came from; she had no idea and honestly it did sound kind of crazy. He was right that most foods with specific names like that had them for whoever came up with them. She couldn't imagine wanting anything called sloppy after her, couldn't imagine anyone wanting that. It was actually crazy.

There were better things to talk about and better ways to spend their time, anyway. She liked hearing about where he came from and his life before Madison Valley. It was so different and her life hadn't been at all.

Paige's eyes flickered toward his hand as he reached out, and she wound up just laughing. "Well thank you for pointing it out at least." If it wasn't the year it was she might have done more than just catch his hand briefly before reaching for a napkin. "I think we should count ourselves lucky I'm not wearing any make up."

She would have, normally, for a date. She would have really tried to make herself look nice. But Corso was different. He'd seen her without plenty of times, seen her a lot more of a mess than she was now, seen her sleep deprived and her hair all over the place and he wanted to be there with her anyway.
