It was a good thing that Ella had shown up unexpectedly and given him some sort of idea about what was going on. It meant that when Lucas did show up, Cameron had had the time to communicate what was going on well enough that he could actually leave early and that everything would be in good hands. And he was prepared enough that, embarrassing as it was, the singing didn't completely throw him and he was able to laugh about it.
He wasn't going to tell Lucas, though. The kid had such good intentions, he'd had to spoil it.
"She's got it covered," he assured, ruffling the boy's hair. "I already put her to work. Give me one sec." He didn't wait for the clearance, just popped into the back to make sure that Ella had everything in hand, lingered a little to make it look like they hadn't already talked it over, before returning to Lucas. "Okay. So. Where're we headed?"
